opteron + asrock 939 sata 2 and awful agp performance

3Dmark is a 32bit prog, i suspect it will be much quicker when a 64bit 3Dmark becomes available.
Don't get hung up on 3Dmark - check your benchmark in real games to see an improvement.
Anyone tried it running with windows 64bit version after all its a 64bit processor?

my 9800pro is much more stable with this m/b and opty146 - v happy with it and my sata much quicker too than my old barton nf7 combo :)

Hmm I wouldn't have thought that'll make much difference, it really taxes the videocard. I wasn't expecting massive increases because it IS a video card benchmark, I was just hoping to at least EQUAL my last setup with a much more powerful CPU :(

Of course but I should still equal or better the performance of an Athlon XP2500 @ 2.2Ghz with an Opteron at 2.74Ghz!!!

There are definatly AGP performance issues with these boards :(

The point i was making is that this m/b is the ONLY real option for ppl that want to run an opteron with AGP or PCIe graphics, so the issue you have may be related to the 64bit architecture of the A64, without further testing u cannot be sure its a problem with the m/b.

It is an excellent low cost m/b that gives ppl the option to use thier existing AGP board and upgrade to PCIe later when they can afford to.

As I mentioned in the main thread for this board, Anandtech's review indicates that ASRock tuned the board for better PCI-E performance than AGP performance. The results people have been getting seem to be within the range they described. It could be worse - we could all be trying to use one of those AGP on PCI bus efforts.

That's a very good point and well made :)

Uriel: Yeah I suppose so, I'll stop whinging and play some games :D

Not sure if this helps as i was looking into buying one of these boards, but i do believe from what i did in reasearch of this board that the drivers provided by Asrock are not very good , and that it is recommended you downoad ULI's drivers for the chipset instead which are supposed to be much better

Dont blame the board its more to do with the way your unlocking 6800 pipes.

paul4647 has shown an example,in his previous post, showing a result akin to less pipes actually being used.

After reading loads about how to overclock my gt, i came across lots of peeps needing to use riva tuner, to fiddle with pipe settings after installing nvidia drivers.
even on other boards they were getting similar low performance.the exact answer alludes me,but i remember it being one that would be difficult to diagnose. The cards all seem to belong to the 6800/6600 family. And involved really paying close attention to unlocking pipes then checking them again in riva tuner. It did not seem to be that straight forward. But i would check to make sure the pipes you think are in play are actually working.

Sorry i dont have anything more substantial to backup this accusation, or to be of specific help. :)

This thread got me all paranoid once I setup my asrock with my opty 146, X800XT PE and asrock dual.

After much googling it seems that my setup is just about on par for the spec I have.

[email protected] (until better HSF arrives)
X800 xt pe agp@ stock

3d mark 03 at around 13500.........

That seems just about right to me?

Looks good to me. You should get 6500-7000 3D Mark 05 marks as another check
