Why does realism really bother people so much in games, especially when the game itself isn't actual at all realistic? It's about balance and playability, not whether the helicopter you're flying in shoots bullets or lasers.
As Jenk said, it's pretty much the names that keep the Battlefield games "realistic". Do you really think choppers are that easy to fly? Or RPGs so easy to use and take down vehicles with, or tanks so easy to operate? No. So why does it matter if it's a futuristic tank or a futuristic helicopter, given that they'll most likely handle almost exactly the same? The only real differences will be in the added stuff (stealth suits, mechs) and how they fit into the game by keeping it balanced, not what they are themself. I mean, yay for yet more WW2 shooters, boo for futuristic settings that allow developers to flex their creativity more!
Personally, I just hope that chucking mechs into the mix won't make it even harder for the basic footsoldiers to do their stuff.
