Hmmm, Ebay. Don't you just love it?

Timeline of events:

21st April: Purchase item for £100 Buy it Now on behalf of a friend, for a birthday present. Birthday is 16th May
22nd April: Cheque sent to seller
2nd May: Cheque clears
8th May: Email seller to ask when the item will arrive.
10th May: Get email saying 'its on way m8 ta'
13th May: Item not arrived. Email seller asking if it would be possible for me to have the tracking number.

17th May: No contact from seller, no item yet.

When should I start getting concerned and whats the next step? The seller is a Power Seller selling sporting memorabilia, appears to be running it as a business, good feedback rating, and has several auctions on at the moment so is still trading etc...

Big eBayers like that don't always email back, check there feedback which THEY give, if theres not a lot of given feedback then they only sell basically, don't bother with the feedback side of things and probably don't monitor emails. Get in contact with ebay if nothing by 30 days.

we're only 24 mins into the 17th but then its been 2 weeks, long enough
I'd phone him asking how he sent it.
if he's uncoprative then I'd start trying to get money back.

You can report it to ebay as they have a buyer protection scheme. I think its only valid for 30 days after the auction finishes however. You click on the item under "My Ebay" and report it as not arrived or something and follow on from there. You report it after 10 days has passed and you dont get anything and the 10 days has passed so you can report it.

I have never had to do it so maybe someone else can confirm, but I think ebay can refund some of the money to you

You should be concerned now. The item was apparently on its way a week ago and still hasn't arrived. Send him another email stating your concerns and make it very clear that the item was intended as a birthday presentand is now late. It may be a mess up on behalf of royal mail or the courier but it is quite possible that the seller has forgotten or just hasn't bothered to send it.

Demand a tracking number or some other form of proof of postage. If the item was sent when the seller has said it was, there wouldn't be a problem in showing you some form of proof.

try and get in contact with the bloke/ebay... and try and get proof that he sent the item.

i'd imagine for an item with a £100 price tag, you got RMSD or something of the like, that automatically gets proof of item sent/tracking/signings when delivered etc...?

Personally I wouldnt trust a power seller who sends correspondence like that, but then again I rarely use eBay.

You should be able to access the contact details for that seller, probably via the site map on the main page. They usually have a phone number listed in their contact details.

Has anyone else ever noticed that whenever you buy something on someone else's behalf, the deal goes wrong or is difficult for some reason!

Yup! I sold a PC on behalf of a mate as they didn't know what they were selling. Caused me 6 months of hassle and I almost ended up being taken to court :( *Add usual plug about how I'm never going to use Parcel2Go again :p *

nope. Bought a present for my dad on behalf of my mum (as shes clueless about ebay), and the seller was great. Maybe I'm just lucky.
