New Prices

US Prices but am sure it will reflect on the UK

Old Prices below: (again US $)

It means that the X2 3800+ will end up only being £85+vat (ish), which is about the price for it to compete with Core 2 Duo's.

If you look at the price and availability of AM2 boards they are becoming very competetive and build a 3800 X2 with a resonable Motherboard and 1GB RAM will only end up cost £200.

Looks like AMD will be keeping the value segment for a while longer yet :)

HI there

AMD UK are still showing the old prices for price drop, so will find out if these new prices are for real.

Also these are the prices that the UK distributors pay, not the customer. The customer pays higher obviously as their is margin added on by both the distributor and Etailor/reseller.

So if X3800 is now $149 cost to distributor, they will no doubt charge $152 or there approx, though some do sell at cost to increase revenue.

So divide $149 by 1.80 which is accurate for current dollar rate makes our cost approx £83.00+VAT and then we have yet to add our margin which means product is likely to be approx £95+VAT as OcUK is not in the game of making no money. :)

Obviously the Dollar rate effects pricing daily due to these products been dollar based.

£95 + VAT is still an great price for an X2 3800+. We know OcUK is a business and all business are in it to make a profit, not much point in been a business if your not. But still, at £95 incl VAt its a steal and i will move to AM2 in a month if these prices hold true.

Let us know Gibbo

HI there

The new prices are confirmed for AM2. Our website is now uploading:-

AMD X2 3800 AM2 @ £94.95 +VAT
AMD X2 4200 AM2 @ £119.95 +VAT
AMD X2 4600 AM2 @ £149.95 +VAT
AMD X2 5000 AM2 @ £189.95 +VAT

Thats much cheapness!! :D :D

Socket 939 prices have same drops too but at the moment nobody is offering stock on those products and as such no price drops yets will have to see if I can find stock before we can lower prices on socket 939 processors. Otherwise now is a good time to make that AM2 move. :)

so i was gonna get 3800+ single core (cheap gaming rig) and so the dual cores come this cheap! i have £100 give or take a tenner to spend on a cpu, and i heard the 3800 x2 is only 2x 3200, so should i try get a better dual core? or get a single core 3800+ still and save a bit of cash?

edit: should i get 4200 dual core for about £115? would each core be near enough a 3800+? comparing the single core would it be a large leap? if its not i might as well go dual core cos i get another core to do stuff with...like make sandwitches and other kinds of...food...

edit: looks like a 4200 is out of budget, should i go 3800+ dual or single, (mostly for gaming)

is this the 24th price drop or will they drop again in a week or so when that passes?

This is the 24th price drop come early at OcUK on AM2 socket processors.

Anyone got any info on which is the best AM2 mobo now, there isnt many reviews, i want something quick that doesnt cost £100+ doesnt need SLi, so i guess the nforce570 ultra, MSI K9N Platinum nForce 570 maybe, Asus M2N-E ? Also is there any point spending £60 more on 2gb of ddr2 800mhz over 2gb 667mhz on an AM2 setup?

Single core if it's for games I would say. TFT or CRT is a completely different issue though and you should be deciding based on the characteristic of the two screen types, not based on how much money you have left after buying a CPU.
