MORE AMD Price Cuts? Updated Info from DailyTech

CRT vs TFT/LCD is an old war just like AMD vs Intel.

its up to you, what are you going to use the display for. Now if you pick LCD, then you have some great choices and i suggest Widescreen, it really does rock. And with the Acer 19" Widescreen at £170 incl VAT, its a steal

HI there

The new prices are confirmed for AM2. Our website is now uploading:-

AMD X2 3800 AM2 @ £94.95 +VAT
AMD X2 4200 AM2 @ £119.95 +VAT
AMD X2 4600 AM2 @ £149.95 +VAT
AMD X2 5000 AM2 @ £189.95 +VAT

Thats much cheapness!! :D :D

Socket 939 prices have same drops too but at the moment nobody is offering stock on those products and as such no price drops yets will have to see if I can find stock before we can lower prices on socket 939 processors. Otherwise now is a good time to make that AM2 move. :)

That's well cheap. £111 for dual core.

I think the 3800+ might be popular. Everything above that costs the same as the lowest Conroe.

As Gibbo said, OCuk ran out of stock and AMD are sending them a 'large pile of cpus' on monday. AMD are hoping that people think, 'I cannot get a core duo as they have all sold out, so instead I will one of these dual cores instead.'

Must admit I am tempted but my o/clocked sempron 3000 at 2.5ghz does very well for me, but a dual core running at 2.5ghz would be nice.

my mobo will happily run 300mhz htt at stock vcore, I think those cheap 3800s will clock very nicely, expect 2.6ghz on standard vcore, just wish they were the EE(energy efficent versions). For £111 inc vat they look tasty.

you should be deciding based on the characteristic of the two screen types, not based on how much money you have left after buying a CPU.

how can i decide on characteristics when the price i have to spend on it depends on how much money i have left after buying a CPU, i dont have all the money in the world, its one way or the other, thats the way it is, thats a ridiculous comment. spending the extra £30 - £40 on cpu means i have £30 - £40 less on a monitor,(difference between crt and lcd/tft). Price is the key factor here, and what i can get for it, not "characteristics" you utter fool.

i would personally spend more on the monitor than the cpu

I'm still going to order a Mesh or Alienware PC with core 2 duo, once they start selling a wide range of core 2 duo's in there PC's.

Rubbish PC's build your own or buy one built by OcUK.

Alienware are too overpriced for what u get, research the kit and build your own u know what u r getting then.

Couple of people I know bought from Mesh and had horrible experiences with their customer services. One of the reasons I decided to self build was grim stories of customer support in various places when I came to get my new machine. And Mesh was way up there. They also use a weird mix of some branded and some very cheap components and their wiring..erk. Not sure I can say that here as they are a competitor but well the thing looks like knitting! I am a building noob and took more care.

Alienware must make a really expensive case as there seems to be no other reason for the massive charge on their desktops compared to similarly specced machines.

If you don't want to build there are much better places to get one from, building is however the most fun and you can usually pick and choose just what you want. Its not the cheapest option but it can be the best. At least if you then want to have a case worth all that money you can make Yewen happy and get a top line Lian Li :)

The X2 5000 is at a Wicked Price!!!! I must say, well done OcUK!!!!!

If OcUK doesn't stock the P4 EE again, then im getting the X2 5000 ...******* heck nice price eh!

That was totally uncalled for. I was offering genuine advice and you go out of your way to deliberately insult me. That's the 2nd time in two days I've seen you insult someone for no reason. I would explain why you shouldn't link your TFT/CRT decision to which CPU you buy but frankly you don't deserve such an explanation. No one has a fixed budget, except people with zero patience. Post reported for offensive content.

That is a bit of a harsh statement I think considering they use almost the same components as you do in your systems. Simply saying they are rubbish lowers your credibility to a level I'd never though I would see you go to.

Maybe saying they are poorer value for money, or have a worse after sales service would have sufficed, but point blank saying every system they do is rubbish imo is rubbisn.

For me this is quite interesting as it is a return to what things were like a few years ago - AMD being forced to compete at the low/middle end of the market. I remember a time not so long ago when even the most expensive AMD cpu (1.4ghz tbird) was well under £200, yet over the past couple of years - especially with their A64 range - AMD had started to eek up their prices and profit margins for the top of the range chips.

I think AMD has woken up to the fact that people who are looking to spend £200+ on a cpu will definitely be going with Conroe for performance reasons. OK so a few people with AMD motherboards or DDR1 memory may not wish to do so, but certainly anyone doing a full system build or major upgrade. This is why they have basically halved the prices on their dualcore cpus as they stand a fair chance of fending off intel in the mainstream/budget sector - just like the old days.

I think most people are in agreement that the E6600 is/will be one of the best cpus on the market, but not everyone has £250 lying around, especially not if they need a new mobo and possibly RAM as well. I'd love a E6600 setup, but it would likely cost me around £450-500 total including quality mobo and 2gig RAM. Yes you can recoup some selling old kit but at a heavy loss. A cheap X2-4600+ on the S939 platform might be a more attractive proposition for some people now that it's basically been halved in price.

I'm not going down the self build route again, had too many problems with my current PC random restarting due to either my graphics card screwed up or my ram messed up?
