The Ship

Played this offline, wasn't great (bots were useless), but with a decent comunity I'd say this could be great fun. Some neat ideas and it looks quite nice.

I'd say it's worth the $20 (£13 or so) but it needs players playing. I coun't tell you how many servers etc there were but the fact it's rarely mentioned makes me think it's very small atm.

For those who don't know the aim is to kill another passenger on the ship, without being taken out yourself. Basically all the passengers are given a name of a passenger that they have to kill, so your hunting as well as being hunted. There are various weapons aboard that you have to find and use, some of the more obscure weapons (golf club, paddle etc) give you bonus money, otherwise you get money by taking your victims wallet. The money is used to buy drinks/food etc as you have to sleep, eat, drink, socialise whilst aboard but tbh this only occurs rarely so it doesn't disrupt the main aim of the game.
Also you musn't get spotted by either other passengers or video cameras (???) whilst attacking otherwise you get thrown in the brig.

It does look pretty nice on the source engine, but obviously not like HL2.

there's a thread over at haflife2.net about it.
has been getting some very positive feedback. certainly something i will be looking at picking up.
i wish Valve would hurry up and get steam to support switch/maestro cards! its annoying having to ask someone to buy it for me.

People where I work have been raving about it, it practically took over the whole office when it came out the other week. The price maybe a little steep but in September there is a single player version being released which should be free to those who have bought the online version - its also being released in the shops.

Its not just a fps but you also have to "look after" your character by sleeping, feeding and cleaning so it adds something different.

a lot of people have said its a little slow at first to get used to, but once they have got into it they have found it quite addictive.

I really like the idea of this game. But it needs a big community to make it worth palying. So it's a little like the chicken and egg.

I bought 'The Ship' on day of release as an alternative to DoD and CS. It has some good ideas and a very different pace from the other Steam shooters. I haven't tried tried the single player bots because there are plenty of servers to play on.

Id recommend you give it ago but it may be worth waiting for some reviews. They would benefit from a free weekend sometime soon.

I bought this game the first day it was released to. IMHO its really good fun as a change from ym usual FPS gaming. It's not however a game that i could play daily, but more a once or twice a week game. I find it much more fun with voice comms and mates playing with you too as its alays fun to stealthily kill your friend :P As for gfx its just on the hl2 engine so basically the same as every other mod. Give it a go, its quite cheap :)

Bored and with the delay of my conroe build i want something to play on my lappy! just watched the video on gamespot, looks fun so i'll d\l 2night :D

I might buy it when the SP part comes out if it's any good. It sounds interesting but I don't play multiplayer games much. I just get bored of them very quickly.

I thought it looked a good idea + graphics but i played the HL1 version and was slightly put of by the gameplay, every1 else seemed to know what they were doing, except me :(
