Screen shot request please

Hi Folks,

Can someone with a flash computer do me a favour and take two screen shots of a fairly new, good looking game for me eg Oblivion, prey, half life 2(not new I know but good looking!) etc. One of the screen shots I'd like at the highest quality with all the bells and whistles on (AA, AF, HDR, high res etc) and the other I'd like of the lowest settings without any bells and whistles. Also, if the two screen shots could be of the same thing( Eg an ingame character or landscape) so they can be compared side by side. I'm just interested to see the difference in quality the new games have from one extreme to the other but my pathetic P3 laptop isn't up to the challehge (it struggles with quake 3!).

Hahaha, I'm so glad you asked for someone to do this.

Just tried it in Oblivion with max settings, full AA, AF and HDR and then the again with everything at the lowest settings or off, with no AA, AF or HDR. And it just looks horrible. And you can't see anything around you, so I did it again with medium settings, but still without AA, AF or HDR to give you an idea of the difference in settings.

The shots are 1600x1200 so I'll just link them, unless someone wants to resize them.

Highest + AA + AF + HDR
Lowest + No AA, AF or HDR
Medium + No AA, AF or HDR

Also have Far Cry, HL2 and EP1 and BF2 installed, if you want any shots of those doing. :)
 
Its a 22" Lacie, I also have a 22" IIYAMA 514 next to it (waiting for a longer VGA cable.) They both share the same NEC-MITSUBISHI tube.

Hi Slyvester, they are great, just what I am after. Is it possible for you to take a screeny of an ncp or character in the game but in a similar style instead.

Also, with regards to HL2, Farcry etc, can you please do something similar, eg a screeny of a character (enemy or friend).

With regards to the resolution if it can stay the same so they can be compared side by side that would be great.

I should be able to do farcry. My res is 2048x1536 though so the pics will be large ^^

May have to be an object in Farcry though, as the autosaves mean I cant just save at a person :(

Hope this is what you mean.

NPC in Oblivion, everything is on full, apart from self-shadows which is off in all the shots, gives them a weird glow on the top of their heads for some reason.

Full + AA, AF + HDR
Medium + No AA, AF or HDR
Lowest + No AA, AF or HDR

Also did some for the view distance. Had to put view distance on full for the medium shot otherwise there's no distant land. But everything else is on medium.

Full + AA, AF + HDR
Medium + No AA, AF or HDR
Low + No AA, AF or HDR

If you're looking to tweak the game to get it to run I'd recommend you follow this guide over at TweakGuides. Especially this page as it gives you screenshots with all the different settings.

Will take some HL2 screenshots later on as well.

oblivion high to med the difference is minimal really I could live with that If i had too ,luckly I dont :D but at the lowest it shows no distance and it looks silly
 
hmm... can do you a screeney of gangsters 2 if you want :p full quailty settings... Only dam game that works on this bag of **** :mad:
 
Heres Farcry (2048x1536 res, but for some reason Fraps shrunk them to 1600x1200) I've tried to get the guy in roughly the same time, but as I cant precisely control save points, I apologise for them being slightly out.

All settings the game lets you control high (AA+AF, no HDR sorry)

Thanks everyone they are all great especially those Farcry ones, there is such a huge difference in quality! I think my laptop is well past it anyway, those fancy graphics have got me hankering for a new rig!

For that particular game the main requirement imo is main memory, as much as possible!

The good thing about using a Radeon 8500 is you dont have to resize the screenshots at least :D
