Wanting to use my Desktop SATA/SATA2 Storage HDD with my laptop, spec me a Caddy that will be suffice, preferebly black!

Thanks

I have been using an IcyBox for the past few months with no problems - just wish it had a Firewire connection also.

I've read a few opinions on these and all end with comments on the HDD borking after a while - although they do look a lot better than the enermax's.

Any other's that arn't listed on OcUK?

I've been looking for a similar enclosure, but also want an eSATA connection so it will run as fast as SATA II can go. One I have found in the UK that looks reasonable is the Cooler Master X-CRAFT RX-3SB 2.0 ESATA/USB. Comes in black too :)

Nice one, definatley worth looking at, cheers.

Definatley looks the part. £31 is the cheapest I can find it for after a quick search.

Yes that's the cheapest I've found too. Looks like a good enclosure, quite hard to research the eSATA enclosures - usually the details are sketchy or don't show pictures of the ports. If you find any let me know. :)

This Link from the Coolermaster website isn't too bad, got pics of the ports etc and a few spec sheets.

I meant of other enclosures, this is the only one I know a lot about really and is available in the UK. :)

Ah, I see ;) I particularly like the Coolermaster one, so I might just go for that one disregarding the rest.

Well i had an Akasa P2 Enclosure with eSATA which broke after about a week. I'm now looking for another enclosure so i'll be checking up on this thread as that coolermaster looks ace ;)

Received this yesterday, striaght out the box looks a very quality build, aswell as being very pretty.

Had this running for longer than 24 hours now without a problem, best looking caddy i've seen for a long time. Total tool free installation of the HDD and driver free installation onto my laptop.

At the side of my laptop which is 100% silent operation there I can hear the caddy boot up my Samsung Spinpoint - but once it's running the noise becomes background noise and a lot less noticible.

Overall the caddy is decent buy for people with a SATA HDD with no room, or in a situation with me like with a laptop and wanting a an easy connection to USB2.0, or on the other hand wanting a play with eSATA.

It has a constant blue LED which shines through the front coolermaster badge and a red activity LED which shines through once the HDD is working, which I think can be unplugged inside, because that can get quite annoying.

Overall very nice piece of kit and very handy, also very very simple to put together and get up and running. The only snag is they sent me the EU kit, which came with an EU plug  Not sure if that was a mistake or because there's none of these yet in UK shops. No idea, but i'm currently using my EU shaver adapter to run this.

Worth the money in my eyes, hope this makes your desicions easier :)

So do these caddys come with all the cables to run the hd on your desktop, reason i ask is my Seagate Pushbutton Backup 300GB External Firewire/USB 2.0 8MB Cache Hard Drive control board packed up and i had to destroy the case to get at it,and was looking at these caddys.
Thx.

It looks quite large, is it? Looks like a 5 1/4" type caddy as opposed to 3 1/2" but it might just be the picture not showing scale correctly, or quite possibly, just my eyes! Very interested in this chassis, might have to purchase one.

I should expect so yes, I'll check later, but there was quite a few cables That I didn't need inclusing SATA cables.

I'ts not much bigger than a standard HDD, fit's quite snug width-wise, obviously it's longer as there's the small board where the power and SATA connects upto the HDD.
