Saw a thing on "Click" - you know that crappy program on BBC News 24 hosted by that queer guy who's abit too camp and all (nothing agains gay peeps he just makes me laugh)...

Anyway, I know its not exactly technical in nature but I did remember hearing a few weeks ago that some 1TB drives will be released before chrimbo?

Is this true\any info...

thanks :)

i know plenty of gay guys who wouldn't batter an eyelid at those comments. you shouldn't either, really. moving on.....

well, we have 750gb right now. with perpendicular tech its really quite feasible to see 1tb before the year is out, assuming there's adequate demand for it

Being "queer" myself, I find your comments very offensive to say the least.

I find it offensive that you find it offensive, being straight and not having a problem whatsoever with gay people.

Thanks to the other people for posting and the link :)

Don't take the thread any further OT guys. Ive been waiting for a 1Tb drive to come out for a while. Im wanting to use it as my backup drive. The current plan is to get 2 x 500Gb drives, but that would leave me with no room for expansion in my case. So using 1 x 1Tb drive instead would be ideal.

although i want one - affording one when they hit the shelves is another thing altogether! I dont have that much sitting around in my account and my machines are due for an upgrade soon enough!

You can get a 750GB Seagate for £250 so I'd say £300 at least.
I'd say £350, 35p/GB. Cost per GB is most important to me... 320GB is the sweet spot. Really big drives aren't worth it. What's going on with the 400GB drive!!

Going off your graph, I'd say £400-450, continuing the line a bit further.

To hit £350 the £/GB would have to be only marginaly greater than for the 750gig drive, and there is a definate increase in £/GB as capacity increases (Other than the 400gig drive)

Are the prices you used inc. vat or exc. vat?

I'm not interested in what they call 1TB hard drives, as they'll only have a capacity of 931GB.

'Only?', I hear you say. Well I'm a semi-obsessive sort, and if I want a terabyte then I want an ACTUAL terabyte, so that Windows will report the capacity as such.

good point...never thought of it like that

Inc VAT, yeah the price will be something between 35 and 40 pence per GB I guess, £350-400. Too expensive if you ask me. I'd take 3x320GB.

My problem is that I need 1Tb, but I don't have the space for 3 drives. I have the space for 2x500Gb ones, but i'd also like to leave a drivebay for redundancy.
