december is an expensive for me... the better halfs birthday, anniversary, and then christmas - all within about 3 weeks! its compounded a bit more this year, however, as its 21st birthday and 2 year anniversary!

anywho... instead of presents for our anniversary im thinking along the lines of a long weekend away somewhere, and i've heard good things about york.

so - i would like suggestions of things to do, places to see, and also accomodation recommendations. we're into luxury b&b's rather than hotels.

hoping to go between the 15-18th of december, so i would like to get something booked this weekend!

answers on a postcard! :)

edit: recommendations of good places to eat would also be good! :)

National Railways Museum, Yorkshire Wheel, York Dungeons, and York Minister.

You can NOT leave York without visiting those!

large georgian B+B's are everywhere. anywhere near the racecourse will put the prices up.

as said minster/national railways etc.

good places to eat and drink -

Evil eye - great bar fabulous cocktails and beers does thai cuisine properly, a "relaxed" atmosphere, dont go if you want food quickly :) they also have 4 poster beds you can ly in and eat/drink.

bettys tea rooms is a classic place.

nice pubs in centre of town -
the golden fleece
the bluebell (only fits about 20 people :) )
the three tuns
lendal cellars

Hi, im at work at the moment and my brains not really working so i`ll get back with some good places to eat and drink later but for entertainment along with whats already been mentioned get yourself on a ghostwalk, not really scary more stupid and funny and deffinately worth it.

i`ll check back later

We went for a couple of days last year.

That 'betties' place was apparently the thing we had to do. But we didn't, because it was absolutely packed with about a billion pensioners every time we got near it.

Definitely definitely take a trip to the tip of the minster.

Oscars for food and drink, absolutely massive portions and really, really good. double bacon and guacamole burger mmm....then pop to the olde star inn across the road for a beer.

Yorkshire Eye is ok but not sure how much you're going to be able to see in the middle of December.

Sure more stuff to see will occur to me this afternoon as I'm daydreaming at work.

It's also a complete rip off. Not been in there myself but been told by many fellow students.

Evil eye is a must if out for a drink.

I thought it was pretty good value. I don't reckon students are the best judge of whats a rip off ;)

(sorry, most useless post ever...)

Jorvik centre, be first in the queue :)
Shambles

Queen's hotel is good enough, not 5* luxury but adequate quality in a perfect location

I live in york queens hotel is ok to good. you won't go far wrong.

As for food if you like mexican go to plunkets its near york minster.

Evil eye is okish gets really busy on a night though.

As said oscars is good food. However just round the corner new bar has open called biltmore which is owned by same people and food there is really good.

Things to do which haven't been mentioned cilffords tower, Xmas ice ring , york museum as of which are next to each other.

Shambles is good to see all of york historical things if thats your thing.

York art gallery is also worth look.

Rail museum is okish its free , but parking is expensive, So just park down the housing estate directly opposite it to save some pennies.

If you need anything else just let me know

York gets very boring i know! my ex lives there, and once youve seen york, theres not much more to do! nice cafes nice history but thats about it :(

Oi! Don't you go blocking up my street.

Anyway, it's not a housing estate, it's a collection of exclusive properties.
