Oi! Don't you go blocking up my street.

Anyway, it's not a housing estate, it's a collection of exclusive properties.

lol @ exclusive properties you mean the "estate" opposite it?

If you do they where built buy permission homes and are anything but exclusive :p

meh in 17 years ive managed to be entertained enough by the place :) there are some great veggie resturants if you need to go but my minds is a blank for names.

el piano is another place, recommended by mates
blue bicycles pretty nice

evil eye does get busy but the drinks are worth it and the top floor usually doesnt fill up for a while. and if you start running out of money the old starre inn and lendal cellars are nearby.

a little sicilian restaurant called el da paridisimo (i think) a bit down from the blue bycicle and the blue bell on the left near Vamps the gothic shop, does a really filling meal for about 4 quid each. all cooked by the guys there. tiny place, only about 2/3 tables.

There's plenty of pubs.... :) And the railway museum is a hoot. The queue for Betty's was huge today when I passed. Last time I went to Jorvik was in Junior School, have no desire to return. Check the theatre listings, what about the panto? :p

sorry to hijack but its quite coincidental. I'm (22) also heading up to York next weekend to visit a friend, she may be feeling a bit down/stressed when i get there so would love to know of a few places she may not have been that would cheer her up in the evening. Also are there any nice wine bars or similar? Nice atmosphere, with conversation available over the music and nice drinks are preferable.

If a club is on the cards, any good trance(and similar genre) clubs about? Any/all advice appreciated.

York is one of the nicest places in the uk, especially if you are a real ale drinker like myself!

Pubs are plenty and many are very warm and homely. Restaurants wise quite a few nice ones, my favourite being Mamas. Not cheap but worth the money!

make sure you visit the Last Drop Inn too, one of the two pubs in York owned by the York Brewery. Good pub food served too :)

boyrob, have you been to the terrier pub? near the old starre inn with a shop at the front? pleasantly surprised about that place, its a weird atmosphere but does some good drinks.

@anime near borders theres a street connectiong coney street and the borders street. on this has the HAHA bar and blue fly cafe. blue fly gets a bit busy but the HAHA bar is a pretty nice place, does food with some nice drinks etc.

for big splash outs theres cafe rouge (rather expensive french resturant near the minster) or loch fyne a chain (theres one in london) but it looks really nice, just opened up and im about to try it out. friends love it and it looks fabulous (converted from a large blacksmiths building - FR stubbs if you know york)

as to clubs... i cant say ive toured them that much as a 17 year old. the usual biggy's are the gallery and nexus, the priory's pretty good as well. but none of them have in my experiance had any good trancie stuff.

im pretty impressed with how many people know york.. usually im the only one on the forums :)

Is that the York Brewery Shop?

If it is I bought a York Brewery Sweatshirt in their two weeks ago!

My brother lives just above York and works at the uni so I am often over there, wonderful place. :)

Souns like bar 38 , pitcher and piano along with orgasmic are what your after.

All located just off coney street (main shopping street) by the river.

As for clubs there aren't any really good ones. GAllery is rubbish IMO.

Best out of a bad bunch is toffs.

Although nexus is ok , its more of a late bar though then a club.

Hope this helps

TBH what you pay for York with train fares, hotels etc you could probably go Paris, Romw, Amsterdam and have a much better time

York gets very boring i know! my ex lives there, and once youve seen york, theres not much more to do! nice cafes nice history but thats about it :(
Absolute rubbish. York has masses to do. I lived there for 3 years as a student and then spent another 3 at Leeming, visiting York regularly and I can honestly say I never got bored of the place once. I fact, I consider it as much a home now as Sheffield (where I'm originally from).

Best Breakfast - definately either Cafe No 8 on Gillygate or Melrose Too on Walmgate. Book to avoid missing out.

Best Cafe/coffee - Another vote for The Evil Eye on Stonegate and it's a good place for a beer in the evening.

Best Pub - too many to choose from but Dusk is good for beers after 2300. For a real ale pub, try the Maltings or the Red Lion, The 3 Tuns, The Hansom Cab or The Achorn. Alternatively The Golden Lion's ok as is The Hole in the Wall.

Best Curry - definately The Akash on North Street but La Quila on Bishopthorpe Rd is also excellent.

Clubs - non of them are any good but they're worth a laugh. Toffs is terrible, the Gallery (used to be Silks) is a bit better and Ziggy's is just an oversized house party with a grotty cellar.

Stuff to see - Obviously The Minister, but also the Kings Manor, the city walls, St Mary's Abbey and the gardens, the York Eye, Stonegate, Yorvik Centre, Dungeons, Castle, The Shambles, the latin quarter, Rowtree's Park, the River Ouse (either for a walk or on one of the many boat tours), the York Theatre Royal. Coppergate.
