Dual Core Optimisation Utility

Last week I installed the said utility and I've noticed since that this holds up the windows startup once logged in... as much as 30 seconds. I've noticed the entry in the startup file in MSCONFIG..

Anyone else had the same.. Normal?

Performance is fine.. just have to wait longer to use the desktop.

Squiffy,

Have you managed to uninstall it and rectify your system performance?

I have installed it immediately after putting in my new X2 4800 and I had not run it without it, thus it was difficult to compare. I had the impression that everything was OK (and still do).

Having said that, I did not notice a massive improvement, e.g. loading Windows XP does not happen faster than when I had my A64 3500 Winnie.

After uninstalling it, system responsiveness went back to normal.
You really need to do heavy CPU multi-tasking to make dual core worthwhile. I have a 3700+ SC and 4400X2 DC and DC is much faster, with SC can't encode and do other stuff (even loading Media Portal is slow whilst encoding) with DC can play games, encode video/audio at the same time, with zero slowdown in games (all using seperate HD's if heavy HD I/O ie gaming and shrinking ISO to ISO)

I'm still trying to find out how to un-install this damn thing. Using the remove programs utility appears not to have worked as there is still a freeze for about a minute after logging in first time.. I'm assuming there are some registry entries or services left behind.

I'm getting fed up now.. I don't relly fancy re-installing windows just to get rid of the things.

Anyone?

Can you run a registry cleaner program, in case something has been left behind as well as WinXP system optimiser? These usually find the unnecessary strings and get rid of them.

I do not have experience with uninstalling as in my case I did not encounter any problems.

i have it installed and runs smoothly for me, did you also install the Hotfix ?

I'll check if I have that fix.. If it's part of the regular updates then I should have.

I don't actually experience any performance problems. Only that it take about a minute for the login to complete (whilst the optimizer runs) and I've noticed a few clitches in the grapicas on deskyop (i,e, bad clipping etc).

Ok I found this?

It looks like running the setup program again will give an option to unistall the optimizer..

Interesting known issue with hotfix KB896256

Will try this tonight.

i got both optimiser and amd driver installed little quicker but on few games little pause when join server slightly annoying.managed to sort out cod1 but uo still does it for first second when join.

I had BSOD problems with the 1st release of the Optimizer and the hotfix mentioned above but this has been fixed with the latest releases of both. Now very stable for me and I've yet to find a game that does not work fine with dual-core (no setting of CPU affinity etc. required).
