bloody hard drive

Ok i just recieved my new hard drive which is a Maxtor MaxLine III 250GB 7L250R0 ATA-133 16MB Cache and when i tried to boot, it wouldnt go past the first screen where it says press 'delete to enter setup'.
When i press delete the hard drive starts making clicking sounds and nothing happens. Is this drive dead or am i missing something.
I haven't messed around with the jumper settings and so far have not been able to find anything on what they should be for primary drive. I simply hooked it up out of the box.

Any help will be appreciated guys.

EDIT: Oh and just to avoid confusion this was the only hard drive in the machine when i booted up. Just trying to upgrade to a bigger capacity drive.

Dumb question but have you installed an operating system on the new drive?

hard drives and clicking is never a good sign

You need to do a fresh install of the OS, if you know what you're doing you should be able to determine if the drive is faulty.

It shouldn't constantly click though, just in BIOS idle. Now where's my Maxtor brick picture?

I was trying to install the new OS on it but like i said it wont go past the screen i mentioned above. It just clicks like mad.

So time to RMA i think.

I second that, clicking is usually bad news unfortunatly.
