Article on BBC website - hard disc failure - interesting read!

I thought that was interesting too.

I like the idea that if you have enough of anything, in this case HDD's, the characteristics of machine can be likened to that of life - the survival of the fittest. Very interesting.
 
"After the first scan error, drives are 39 times more likely to fail within 60 days than drives without scan errors."

Time to keep a closer eye on the failure reports! Good read - thanks for that - pity it doesn't link to the full report.

The report said that there was a clear trend showing "that lower temperatures are associated with higher failure rates".
So it appears I might have been right never to worry about the fact that my hard drives sometimes report being 50C+. :)
