RC Nitro Getting myself a new toy

Make sure you get a well known brand i payed £250 for a unbranded one, Its had maby 2hrs use..

Phil

It brakes to easy.. I just ordered a new part. I would recomend savage!

ach Hyper 8 bar far man. the savage is pain in the proverbial to be quite honest. i had one, lavished love and my bank account on it and despite it all it still kept breaking and annoying the hell out of me.

Hypers just run and run, my old PBS only ever broke a shock shaft in all its life and that was only because my mates savage drov into it while i might have been creating pretty dust clouds lol. Hyper 8 for sure and if you are minted drop a WS7 III in there too. got mine modded and the damn thing screams.

Not trying to hijack the thread but more find out about RC Nitro cars.

I was looking at the website in the opening post and generally flicking through the electric cars. Saw some really nice ones - i personally like the drift style as opposed to the buggy or 'monster truck'.

Either way, are Nitro cars just a lot more powerful? Do they need more looking after than electric cars? Advantages and disadvantages?

You need to buy a (nitro) good quality nitro engine, if it's bundled rubbish ie Kyosho they're not worth bothering with. Nitro engines are noisy, oily and quite expensive to run. You do get instant power with electric, and in fact newer battery technologies can outperform nitro easily (lots more torque) If you're into electric you probably know the cost of batteries/several of them, so charging one or two packs whilst using the one in the car.

Petrol is where it's at- cheaper for a gallong, full tank last longer (30 mins+) more reliable engines, bigger, more torque than nitro. And awesome. :D

You might find this Electric vs Nitro article useful.: http://www.rcdriver.com/articles/01-29-07_nitro-vs-electric.shtml

Nitro is easily more powerful in stock out of box.

For your first car i would definitely get a truck, you just have more options of where to drive them and generally can withstand more bashing. I started with a hpi rush evo and it was great, i moved onto a hpi rs4 18ss after that which is more of a drift style car as you call it, low down and quicker off the mark, but limited to where you can drive them.

Electric:

Cleaner
Faster then nitro with brushless motors and a LiPo battery.
Generally easier to maintain.
Run time of about 15 minutes, depending on how many battaries you want to lug about you wont be out long.

Nitro:

Louder.
Messy.
Can be difficult to maintain and tune.
Fast, depends on the car (Jato`s are stupidly fast for example).
Run time of about 15-20 mins per tank, but if you carry a fuel bottle you can be out all day easily.

Petrol:

Huge.
Can be loud.
Cheaper to run, but more expensive to maintain.
Engines are very reliable (they are practically lawnmower engines).
Fun.
Not as bashable/less use for stunts than Nitro or Electric.

I`ve done all 3 in the space of a year and settled with Petrol.
Expensive sure, but in the long run I find it cheaper than Nitro.

I wouldn't say that, the Kyosho engine that was bundled with my car was utter rubbish. Hard to start, couldn't tune, and lousy on-road speed, and zero off road performance. It wasen't my setting up, as brothers into planes and has hundreds of engines. He couldn't get it going either.

You need a decent nitro engine, OS, Irvine etc. After replacing the Kyosho with a CZ-11 I got the performance I needed. At the end of the day that Kyosho ended up pretty expensive.

Don't rate Traxxas highly either, mate had one- rubber exhaust and hard to start too.

Go for petrol :)

Just another thing between electric and nitro. With nitro the power output is constant until your out of fuel, whereas electric the power output slowly diminishes as the battery discharges so you get slower and slower as time goes on/

Drift cars are not fast, or powerful, but they're tons of fun. The motors don't need to be high speed in the drifters - you spend all your time sideways, so really high speeds don't happen. They're fairly torquey little motors instead. That said, my HPI drift car has a decent enough turn of speed in a straight line. Enough to be fun, anyway.

I'd really recommend drifters if you're after a car to use on tarmac. Regular electric saloon car style RC's are just boring if you're not racing.. you just drive around, and that's no fun. Drifters are loads of fun :D

And as far as electric vs nitro, they're both a pain in the arse! Sorting your batteries, changing the brushes in motors, fixing bits, sorting the engine out, maintaining it all.. they're all a bit of work if you want to keep them in good order for any length of time, so just grab whatever tickles your fancy, I say.

I say it's all part of the experience :p

Definitely, tinkering is fun :D

Smashing buggery out of my Mad Force and not being able to get parts isn't fun though :(

I found a stockist though, once we move house I'm getting that bad boy up and running again

It's a bit oddball, but loads of fun (doesn't turn well, crazy handling because of the solid axles, but it can pull 30mph wheelies)
