Wii nearly UK's best seller

That’s impressive considering for the last 10 years the UK has been sony land.

This also goes to show what a failure the gamecube was.

I wonder how many of them sit unused under the TV like mine does.
A fair few I should imagine. There's going to be a lot of people waiting for the good stuff to come and then there's the granma's etc who bought it on a whim because of the hype and got bored with it after a couple of hours.

Don't get me wrong I think the Wii deserves to do well, but I dont think the sales figures are from genuine gamers rather than people who have bought because of the hype machine.

Kudos to Nintendo though - they must be laughing all the way to the bank. Maybe for their next console they could afford to stick a decent GPU in it ;)

If they bought a games console, they are a genuine gamer.

This whole concept of some hardcore gamer is just a product of geeks on the intermaweb wanting to be more elite, hardcore, genuine and whatever else than the general populous.

They stated that for their next console they would do just that because by that time the HD TV user base would be much larger and worth them taking advantage of. :)

I'm sure plenty of 360s and PS3s do exactly the same, so I'm not sure that's relevant.
I duno.. the 360 costs money so part of that makes me want to play it. The Wii cost nothing and is my "gimmick" console and only gets used when I have friends round (no friends, so not very often). Plus with multiplayer on the 360 and PS3 you always have someone there wanting to play.

If we had a poll on these here forums I think most people would vote they turn on the Wii < 5 times a month. :(

I had all 3 consoles and it was just too much. I got rid of the Wii because I've never been into the Metroid Prime series or Smash Brothers, I wasn't going to keep it just for Mario. I didn't like the idea of using batteries all the time either, the Wii fit board takes something like 4 AA's or 3 AA's.

You can see why it sells incredibly well though, it's cheap, it's fun and children will love it. Parents would rather see their children playing Wii games than GTA, Bioshock, MGS etc.

Edit: I also don't believe much in the fact that grandmas, grandpas and mums are desperate to go out and buy one. I know this is apparent in some places but the majority of buyers are still most likely parents.

I think it is entirely relevent. I use my 360 most days. I turn the wii on once a month.

Ah, so you have a 360 to play instead. How about people who only have a 360 and don't use it?

They probably have other reasons not to play it, not because it has a lack of quality games .
