Wii nearly UK's best seller

I assume (I guess most people do) that my findings are not massively dissimilar to most peoples findings.

There's not many people in this thread saying their Wii is collecting dust, but again it's an assumption (could be a big one) to say either way as to whether they're being used by a majority. The charts, to me at least, suggest that there's people still buying games, at least as many as for the 360 in enough numbers to make a Top XX.

IIRC there was a poll here a while back along the lines of "do you still play your wii" and an awful lot of people didn't. Sadly we can't use the search function to find it.

Perhaps a new poll but of course the posters here won't be considered "representative".....

Aye, I remember it. I think you're right in saying that a fair few said they didn't play it much - but as I said earlier, because it's not being played a lot doesn't mean it's not value for money. I play mine when I can (you know what it's like with kids), so I can't invest a great deal of time in it. But I enjoy every minute I/we get on it.

The strength of the Wii is the control system but how many games is that actually suited to? Certainly not many multi format ports. Those games that are specifically written for the Wii (Sports and Play) are great. A golf game written for the wii would be great. Can you think of any games that are better on the Wii than on the 360?

Well, it's obvious that games that are made for the Wii from the ground up are better than ports. I've not played Godfather on the 360, but I know it's great on the Wii (all IMO, of course) and I certainly feel like it's more immersive than I would find it with analogue sticks and button presses.

Unfortunately I can't afford 2 consoles, so I haven't really played 360 games. I'd say there's not a game on the Wii that's as good as the best titles on the 360 - possibly Zelda or Resi 4, for many at least, but I'm not the best person to say.

When the Wii has it's Smash Bros, Metroid and Mario, we'll have better points for comparison. Nothing in the initial 360 lineup made me think "I'll have one of these instead of a Wii" and I think the Wii is suffering from good (excellent?) games for people who want a deeper gaming experience akin to GoW for example.

That'll come with time though - and I certainly think there's titles aplenty for a wider audience than the 360 caters for... Perhaps why, along with price, that it's about to overtake the 360 in sales.

At the end of the day you either follow the sheep or buy what you like. I have racked up 100 hours online on Forza already >< and Gears still gets a lot of play online. My Wii hasn't been played on in months appart from when i come home drunk and wanna test my druken reflexes ;) . I couldn't care less that the Gamecube sold terribly here in the UK. There is nothing more then being able to play back to back all the current Resident Evil games on one console. Plus all the classic games i managed to play on it (Metroid Prime for example). Same with the N64. It sold like crap but I had some of the best gaming moments of my life on it and Gamerankings proves it had some of the best games of all time. (Goldeneye, Bad Fur Day, OOT for example).

Also the Wii releases have been very poor no matter how you try to cover it up. The Gamecube already had plenty of top quality games by this time (Pikmin, Eternal Darkness, Rogue Leader, Starfox, Mario Sunshine, Remake, SSB:M which all had a 9.0+ rating with IGN). With Windwaker and Metroid Prime round the corner. The N64 was no exception either with Goldeneye coming out of the doors really early and the epic Mario 64 from launch. The only reason the Wii got zelda from launch was because of the many years it had been in development for the Gamecube.

There's no way to tell, unless you poll a survey on how often people play their console - and perhaps more importantly whether they feel their time on it justifies the cost (3 hours a week for the Wii may be absolutely perfect for a 'casual').
There is no way to tell at all from looking at sales and attachment figures so that's a dead end road. There are simply too many variables to even get a rough feel for the answer.

The Wii took all the third parties by surprise so they are all now clambering over themselves to get games sorted but I do wonder WTF Nintendo have been doing with their time.

I'm not trying to cover it up. I said in my previous post that there is undoubtedly a lack of games for people like myself who enjoy a lengthy gaming experience. But then I don't particularly have time for lengthy sessions anymore - and so my 30 mins on Excite Truck is more than enough. If I can squeeze an hour out, I can then always turn to my games like Zelda, Godfather, Resi 4 or my Gamecube/VC games.

As Kreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ( <3 ) said Nintendo need to pull their finger out. Or do they? The big games may land just in time for any slow down in Wii sales once all the 'grannies' have bought a new dust collector ;)

Spot on, how can attachment rates be used when one console has been out nearly 2 years and the other 8 months. Of course 360 owners will have more games I can bet in a years time I will have more games for my Wii than I do today.

At the end of the day people will buy the console that suits them best, thats why I have a wii its quick pick up and play in short bursts, the 360 and ps3 offer me personally nothing I can't do on my PC. At least until Resi Evil 5! :p
