im going to do this tommorrow with 2 raptor 150 drives can any one walk me through the process i know im going to have to reinstall windows to a new partition and i will lose all current info on my drive im worried about connections and how i physically do this and the software process aswell any help would be appreciated

  1. Make sure you have the RAID drivers on a floppy if you're installing XP.
  2. Set the Intel SATA ports to RAID mode in the main BIOS
  3. Reboot
  4. Go into the RAID BIOS when prompted (Ctrl+I)
  5. Create the RAID0 (striped) array probably stick with the optimal strip setting if available, otherwise 32K or 64K will be fine
  6. Reboot
  7. Back into the main BIOS and make sure the new array is appearing in the boot list after the CD/DVD
  8. Boot from the OS install media
  9. If you're installing XP hit F6 to say that you want to load extra storage drivers
  10. For XP, when prompted hit S to specify extra storage drivers and give the installer the floppy created earlier
  11. Pick the install location as normal and complete the installation
  12. For Vista you can either give it the drivers at the partitioning screen or you can use the built in ones until the install is complete

question im doing this on vista do i install the new hard drive in the same way as my other one are there any connections that i need to do differently and with vista do i need a floopy with driver because i dont have a floppy drive ? when doing this i will lose all my data on the original drive correct i have to do a complete vista reinstall?

Just make sure that both drives are on the Intel SATA ports - the six grouped together at the front right of the board - it doesn't matter which of the six you use.

No need for a floppy with Vista, you can either use the built in drivers until the install is complete or give the installer the drivers from a CD or USB device.

Creating the RAID0 array will wipe the two drives so you'll need to backup anything you want to keep. The Vista installer will see the array as a single 300Gb drive which you can partition as you see fit.

16K-32K is normal size for allround work, 64k and above is getting into Video files sizes, I have no idea why my Nvidia controler wants to set to 64K as all my previous Mobos were 16K or 32K.

Where do you get new Seagate drivers from? I looked on there site but I didn't see any driver updates for the Barracuda 7200.10 HDD?
