My court date was 06 September 2007 for the charge of driving without insurance. I pleaded guilty by post and hand delivered the letter for peace of mind, my licence was included.

I today received a letter from the court advising that I now have a new court date of 27 September 2007. This is because of the seriousness of the matter the court may now disqualify me. WTF?

I now have to turn up at the court, which will involve higher court costs and the expense of a solicitor, obviously.

As it is saturday there are no local solicitors open, I put it to the OcUK brigade... wtf is this all about?

Good Luck Dude, Thats all I can say.

The copper who did you that day was an absolutely ** Swear Word ** IMO.

The money you saved on no insurance will go on solicitors! Karma.

Did you even read his original threads ?

He didn't drive the car anymore... He was making it look nice to sell it and drove it a few feet down the road to put some air in the tyres..

On the few feet drive home a copper came up behind him.

I can't believe that it's come to this :(

I really, really hope that this somehow doesn't go totally **** up for you. I'm unable to comment on possible outcomes, but I can say I'm rooting for you :)

all you can do is tell the truth. turn up on time, look well presented, tell your statement clearly.

if the spacker behind the desk is having a bad day, youre done for, if he feels bad for you, you may do better.

was it advertised at the time? take in the auto trader to prove it, otherwise youll look like a blagger and hell nail you harder. if youre black or even simply a young male, id take a bus there cos youre unlikely to be driving back

how much is a solicitor charging you?

Well if you end up with the same punishment as the ones I see handed out in the local paper each week for driving without insurance, you can expect a few points and fine of a two or three hundred quid.

Good luck.

A solicitor for this matter is not really needed, the mitigating factors are fairly simple which you could put to the court yourself.

Although the whole situation is all very unfortunate.
Few feet, few miles, few hundred miles - driving without insurance is still driving without insurance...

The only advert was on Rovertech unfortunately, but I guess I could try that. I've got the insurance certificate for when the car was insured and the insurance certificate for the bike I was using in place of the
car, this might show that I'm not a total *****?

Does anyone understand the reasoning behind this though? Its not like the circumstances have changed at all. I expected to be receiving some form of sentence back in the post (ie my endorsed licence).

Thanks for the support guys.

Stoofa: I agree mate.

id bring the rovertech advert if possible, hopefully it shows the dates etc to back up your version of events a little.

with the previous insurance cert, how long ago did that run out before the day you were caught? as this is a criminal matter (as opposed to civil, which i used to deal with) the solicitor you speak to will be able to advise you further as to whether that will amount to some form of character evidence.

most high street solicitors will do a 30-60min free consultation, that will be useful i imagine. you have no obligation to take on their services from there, so you can go home and decide.

all the best

I think no insurance could apply to lots of people with insurance!

How about when a young lad sticks a K&N in his 1.1 saxo or installs a big bore or bigger wheels.
Maybe modifications are a grey area but I bet an Insurance company would wiggle out of a claim if they could.
It only cost an extra £17 when I put an induction kit in my saxo which is better than a £300 fine & 5 points or no insurance in an injury/fatality claim.

In those cases though, the person still has valid insurance as far as a 3rd party is concerned.
