hi, i bought the card less than two moths ago and i have been getting a few problems with games. not sure if its glitching, artifacting or whatever but if someone could identify the problem it would be great. here are some pics of crysis, and ut3

video of glitching (best to view in full screen, and sorry for bad quality) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ey7BhrocB5A

ok in the first pic if you look at the frozen boat in the background there are random black dots on the texture for some reason, same as in ut3 but it doesn't happen in any of my other games or on the windows desktop so i have no idea.

the ut3 and pics are the same as the first, random black dots

fourth is ugly moss

fifth is some random white stuff on the guys back

sixth is white branches, now i heard someting about this with nividia drivers but i have ati so i don't know.

and last four pics are the card glitching and artifacting in crysis, i think

sometimes it flickers on the desktop and its not the power supply (ocz stealth xtream 600w with 4 18 amp 12v rails) it even worked on my old 400w power supply with a single 20 amp 12 volt rail, i think we have a culprit

i got a bit of glitching in far cry aswell, and my computer is all at stock speeds
i also tried rolling back to the 7.9 drivers and it didn't help.

also just to say i put some case cooling next to the card to give it some extra cooling and it seems to have made a impact on hom much it does this stuff so it is probiably overheating. i'm thinking of doing a RMA and getting a refund and a 8800gt instead but just to be sure want to ask.

any help appreciated

Thanks

Try a BIOS and chipset update for your motherboard as well as have a few ATI driver revisions handy. If all that fails then yes, I'd start an RMA request :(.

I highly doubt it's the BIOS or chipset really. If I was you, I would be putting a RMA request into OcUK. As you said it worked okay for two months.

Also, just check the card's heatsink isn;t blocked with dust ect, that may be causing heat issues.

Rob.

the heatsink looks fine, i will order up a 8800gt and when that comes through i will RMA the x1950 pro. i don't want to be left for a week witout a card :)

i have never done a RMA before, shall put the request in now so they can look at the situation??? or what?

thanks

I had this problem once on a 4200ti and it was due to the ram over heating on the card (wasnt o/c'ed) i sent it back and got a replacement that worked fine :)

Hope this helps!

A RMA is valid for 2 weeks, best not to request one before you are ready to part with the faulty card.

This really must be an old card i thought they added heatsinks to the effected are on this cards ages ago.
Had the same issues and worse with a sapphire 1950pro 512mb i sent it back stating it had an inherent fault because it had no heatsinks in the area as stated above and quoted the sale of goods act and got a full refund Know Your Rights as a consumer and exercise them i say !

yeah i would agree that something is overheating, i'm ordering the 8800gt tommorrow (if i can find any stock anywhere lol) and will return it as soon as it comes through. thanks for the help

I have the same random dots on mine.

I sent it back over 2 weeks ago, and they have just returned it back to me saying their is no fault.

Something is wrong with these cards, several people have complained about them.

Mine is going back again.

oh my, i would hate to get something sent back that i know for a fact is faulty, so there is something wrong with the batch they recieved do you reckon? can you give me some links to the other treads please, i want to read up on it... thanks

yes its at stock, even underclocked from the usual stock as the ocuk version work slightly slower. i'm sure it can't be my psu, 4 x 18amp 12v rails...

just got a cheap powercolor 256mb x1950gt becuase i still can't find a 8800gt in stock for a reasoniable price. so i installed it, it's a bit noisey and i would like to ajust fan speeds in rivatuner, i just don't know how yet. anyway i tested out all the games that were having problems and there are no problems now . i even overclocked the core from 500mhz to 580mhz which is pro speeds to try and get similar power consumption the the x1950 pro. tried the memory too but it crashed when i tried going over defaut speeds. tried 3dmark 2006 and got 4254 3dmarks with the overclocked core and my 4200x2 @ 2350mhz compared with my x1950pro which got 4731. not too bad, it comes with a better cooler aswell. i forgot to add a pic of my x1950 pro to show you the cooler in my previous posts.

i just though i would update the drivers to 7.12 and reinstall the x1950pro into the slot to see if it made a difference. i tried ut3 and it is still doing the same thing. should i try downclokcing the card to GT speeds to test if there is a lack of power? or will that void the warranty?

thanks in advance.

PS. sorry to ocuk for the delay in testing etc. i had exams to study for.
