Iv always wanted to build myself a petrol car and i now have the money to do so. anybody have any ideas or sites which are good??

What sort of car would be best

Is it better to build 1 or buy one already built

when you say petrol, do you actually mean real petrol, as these are expensive, upwards of £400 to £740...nitro cars are anywhere from £200 to £400, also as far as im aware most Nitro or petrol ones come fully assembled, and all you need to do then is run the engine in and fine tune it.

you used to be able to get kits and build them yourself.
have you had a look in WHsmiths for RCMC magazine that used to be good in the old days

yea most Nitro's are indeed RTR - Ready to Run, but they arnt lol, you need to run the engine in on tickover for 4-5 full tanks, then tune the engine (mixture and all that guff)

They do come with manuals with a breakdown on how to strip and repair it, so if you wanted to do that you could i guess

Most seem to be heading down the ready to run route. I prefer kits because when it breaks you'll have a much greater understanding of how it all screws together.

Not a fan of Nitro myself. Had 2 nitro's and will never buy another. A petrol car does tempt me but they are a big expense initially.

what about a battery powered RC car??

Are they any faster or as fast as petrol and nitro?

Yes, brushless models are becoming more popular and are probably faster out of the box than many Nitro's

Need decent batteries, preferably Li-Po's to get the best out of them. Having said that you'll still see 40 to 50 mph on some 9.6V NiMh batteries.

Yea if you want an electric, with Nitro type performance, Brushless is the way to go for sure, its a bit of an expense, but then again this aint a cheap hobby..

The 2 models lord has got there are good, the Losi is very new and as such i dont know much about it and neither do a lot of people, the rustler is a very good starting point with plenty of options for upgrades in the future, and as its designed around the brushless system upgrading is failry straight forward...as with electric's, the performance boils down to the batterys you use, so spending that little extra on batterys does indeed help a great deal.
Also i would suggest at least 2 packs/sets of batterys, so this prolongs the running time a little bit more, ensuring a little cool down period before whacking in the new pack after the other has died.

also check out the MSUK forums, very friendly bunch of guys there, and lots and lots of info on a wide range of models.

Oh and you never said if you wanted on-road - off-road buggy - off road truggy - or a full on off-road truck such as the Savage.

Ive had a few still got a few, Traxas Jato and a Thundertiger MTA4 S50, loads of fun the Jato is my boys fast as hell. Go for a car/truck that will start with a drill or a starter motor as the pull start one's tend to break often and the drag from the pull start slows the car a little. Also get a temp gauge infrared are good they are very temp sensitive and you don't wan't one over heating.
