Tracking Your Apple Purchase

A lot of people order from the Apple Online Store these days and like to track their orders to-the-door.

Unfortunately, Apple's own tracking information can be slow to update, and often provides a delivery estimate that is TOO conservative, which results in the package(s) being delivered a day early, or it's delayed and it arrives late.

While usually this is a good thing, it can mean that you take a day off work for nothing, or you pop out to get a newspaper and the courier has already been and attempted delivery

Anyway, this thread is designed to enable you to get a little more information than Apple wants you to get by providing the direct tracking details from couriers.

Things you need to know before ordering...
  • Items on the Apple Online Store show a dispatch estimate ONLY.
  • This DOES NOT mean it will arrive in the time stated!
  • This timeframe is used to calculate how long the item will take BEFORE it is dispatched.
  • Your mileage may vary!

Items that "Dispatch in 24hrs" usually mean that they'll take 24hrs to prepare & ship, then a further 24hrs to reach your door = 48hrs

Where can I find my tracking number?

You can obtain a tracking number to use on various tracking sites by visiting the "track your shipment" on the Apple site.

Ordering custom or BTO configurations..

Orders that are placed within a week or so of launch, or orders that are not in stock in Apple UK usually carry a "1-2 week" dispatch estimate (you will see the dispatch time change as you dynamical change BTO options) and as such mean they will have to come from Apple in Shanghai.

Orders dispatched from Apple in Shanghai can be tracked here.

Tip: The site linked above ONLY tracks the package(s) from Shanghai -> Netherlands

Once the package(s) reaches the Netherlands they are then picked up by a UK courier (usually UPS or TNT) and "merged in transit" with any other items on that same order.

The tracking information on the Apple "Track my shipment" page will then change to show your UK tracking details.

It is important to note that once UPS or TNT has the package(s) it is usually 24hrs until the delivery to your door.

Ordering stock or popular configurations..

Items that carry a small dispatch timeframe (i.e. 24hrs - 5 days) are usually sent from Apple UK in Holyhill, Ireland.

These items are also hard to track because the tracking information is updated so late that it usually arrives before you get a tracking number, or even before you know which courier has your package(s)!

To track these orders, you can go here.

Use your 80xxxx number (provided by Apple when you place the order), and put this as your consignment number. The customer reference is "apple".

Tip: The site linked above ONLY works in Internet Explorer or Opera

What about ordering multiple items..

When ordering multiple items in the same order, it is common for the packages to go to a UK distribution centre first.

For example, the packages will go to the UK distribution centre (from Apple UK, Ireland) and then it is assigned a courier for your delivery. It is at this point that the Apple "Track my Shipment" page will update with your tracking information.

Tip: This is the tracking information screen for an order assigned to TNT.

Handy AppleCare information..

When ordering a Mac Pro, it is worth noting that any display you order with the desktop is also covered by the AppleCare plan.

Likewise, if you are a Higher Education (HE) customer, you will also get a 3 year warranty on the display (like you would with the desktop).

It's something to consider if you want piece of mind!

Oooh good writeup EVH, altho ive never bought anything from the apple online store myself, always gone t bricks and mortar stores.

P.s. youre not by any chance waiting for something to arrive are you? ;)

I am stuck in work so I thought I'd do a thread!

At least I know the goodies are only coming from Ireland = here on Wednesday :D

Sticky it? *cough removethepoll cough*

It's crazy, the Pro isn't expected to arrive until Wednesday.. yet the RAM that I ordered is due for delivery today.

Granted I chose UPS Express delivery, but I ordered it on Thursday 20th and it had to come from the USA.. not bad considering the Fri-Mon period was a holiday period

Also, my car went pop on the weekend so it's going in for a service today (and possibly staying in while they change the fuel injector pump) so I can't go to Ikea and get the desk :(

Boooooooooooooo.

I'd lend you my car, but it doesnt do ikea. You only just about fit yourself and a passenger in. :p

You'll just have to make do, and get those PICTURES up asap!

I'm getting excited now!!!

Update: The RAM has arrived *Evil Laugh*

I'm smashing the F5 key on the Apple site, willing it towards my house.

Have to walk to the bank in a bit to put the money in for the perhipherals.. not amused!

Still, T Minus 24 hours now..

Making a mess yet? :p

Actually, yes.

Have been up all night being sick.. I think I have that vomiting virus that was doing the rounds at Christmas.

Still, it's an excuse to have a day off work (TNT say the 'Pro is coming today), oh, and apparently they've fixed my car so I could go out and get that desk (on the sly).

No :(

At least TNT haven't updated their site if they have delivered it! *I went to work in the end :o*

I know, if I wasn't helping my dad out I wouldn't have gone.

I am slowly dying here.. at least I have some reassurance that it's due today.
