Hi everyone

I just bought one of these drives to replace my old 74gb raptor as an OS drive. I installed vista 64 on it no problem.

However i am getting a really poor access time in hd tach and hd tune. Its usually about 22 ms which is from my understandings far too high. read and burst speeds or normal

Can anyone suggest why the access speed might be so high? System feels quite sluggish in general

ABit IP35
Q6600
4gb xms2 ram

Thanks!

22ms seems a bit high but not drastically so, the other benchmarks I've seen for this drive have it around the 18-19ms area. The access times for the latest 250GB+ per platter drives have been heading generally upwards due to the increased accuracy required of the head alignment mechanism.

Do you have all the latest Intel Matrix RAID drivers etc installed and all the normal caching options on?

hi thanks for the responce

I have the latest intel chipset drivers installed. No Riad matrix stuff though. I only have a single drive, should i download this? If so where from

HD Tune is showing the drive as having a 16mb cache. write caching is on

now its showing 24 ms, this cant be right!

Are you sure there's nothing running in the background which is accessing the disk? If this is a brand new installation of Vista it'll still be building the search indexes etc.

yeah i thought that but i tried booting off my old hard disk and then running hd tune on it and i still got over 20ms...
