Hi all.

Anyone here using a Phenom X4 9750? Planning on buying one on Wednesday.

It's replacing my AM2 X2 4200+ 2.2GHz. So what they like for everyday use gaming, video encoding, general multitasking etc....

gaming u won't see much different if any, but video encoding and general multitasking u will see a big differents

Me brother got a 9650, upgrading from a 2600+ that he clocked the nuts off (2.7 or something insane).

One would think that since most things are single thread, his performance would drop (the 9650 being slower on a per core basis).
But actually most things improved greatly (oddly, not supreme commander, the ONE game you would think would go better cos it's multicore aware).
You must remember you get a wide bus, and faster memory transactions etc.
Also, "housekeeping" (ie, "bill's work") will get done on the other cores, leaving your main user process (game or whatever) unmolested.

Just make sure your board really is AM2+ Some AM2 boards can be flashed to take the phenom, but they do not have the support infrastructure on their chipset to handle the chip properly (eg, my M2N32wspro....hence the Q6600 box)

Hi All.

Some good pointers there.

My motherboard is the Gigabyte 770X AM2+ with the F4 BIOS that accepts the new 9"50/8"50 Phenoms and so forth so shouldn't be a problem with it accepting the processor.

Been reading some reviews, and it does seem that AMD are putting there acts together on the new refreshes.

I was considering the 6400+ at the time but if things start shifting towards Quad Cores then i'll have to spend money again and thats something I don't plan on doing for awhile to come.

Been using that mobo with a 9850, clocked it at 3.3 per core on stock cooler. is a pretty good board!!!!

Hi All.

Processor arrived yesturday as planned. Upon opening the package contents AMD have actually release a decent Heatsink, Pipe & Fan cooling system which actually works quite well.

Had a small issue when booting up as it got stuck on the DMI Process..... text, which was a simple fix with taking the CMOS Battery out and worked a treat.

Got into the BIOS and changed to gauged mode to get the memory in dual channel mode at 128-bit.

And I have to say i've seen a massive improvement in my gaming performance, video encoding and everything feels so much more responsive than my X2 4200+.

What a great buy.

Is there any benefit to using un-gauged mode 2 x 64-bit, i've been reading and it seems to have a better performance result over gauged 1 x 128-bit and performs better independently, i'm using 4 x 1 GB memory modules at the moment i'm thinking of selling them here and buying 2 x 1 GB PC-2 8500 1066MHz memory modules to replace them and seeing what the performance increase achieves.

Hi.

So is it worth coming from (4GB Memory) 4 x 1 GB of XMS 2 PC2-6400C5 5-5-5-12 and getting the 2 x 1 GB Reapers PC2-8500 5-5-5-15 and having (2GB Memory)?

So is it worth coming from (4GB Memory) 4 x 1 GB of XMS 2 PC2-6400C5 5-5-5-12 and getting the 2 x 1 GB Reapers PC2-8500 5-5-5-15 and having (2GB Memory)?
tbh if your happy with the performance u have then don't bother.. personlly i don't think u would see much of a performance boost.

wouldn't you be able to clock the FSB higher with 1066 memory, as it's then just the FSB thats gonna fail not the speed of the memory ??

I know if it's a black edition then that makes very little diffrence but....

phemons supports 1066mhz memory. but 800 vs 1066 i don't think you'll see much performance boost.

I own the Phenom 9850 and have owned a Q6600 and to be honest the intel smashes this to pieces, i am considering selling it and changing to a Q9300 or something.

Even tho previous motherboards can support phenoms with a bios upograde I dont think they support the higher hyperthreading, think u need an AM2+ with 770 or 790 Chipset

9850 vs q6600 it isn't that far apart on performance..

am2 motherboards don't support HT 3.0, only the am2+ motherboards supports HT 3.0
