Hi,

I have Googled this and most of the links are well out of date.

Any suggestions?

Auslogics Disk Defrag is a good app to use. Pretty damn fast at defraging and works well on Vista.

I may be wrong but I remember reading somewhere that Vista defrags the drive as standard when the pc is idle.

I used to run "Diskeeper" when I was using WinXP but now I just use Vista own defragger. When SP1 came out it allowed users to change which HDD's were defragged and allowed you to set up a schedule (once a week for me during the night).

Another vote ofor O&O. Used this at the weekend for the first time and it sorted an awfully fragmented drive out which windows could not. This was in xp though.

Vista's own defrag program I have found to be quite decent....have used others (Raxco PerfectDisk and O&O etc), but didn't find any improvement over Vista's.....

I use Defraggler it,s fast and it,s free.

I have installed this and done a defrag took nearly 2 hours to finish!

Have been using Auslogics Disk Defrag which only takes about 5 mins.

Does this mean Defraggler is doing a better job because of how long it took?

I thought Windows defrag was a cut-down version of Diskeeper ? ? Certainly used to in 2000 & XP.

I think Vista runs a scheduled defrag.. Not had much to do with Vista yet but the couple of PC's I've played with had it set at certains times every day.

Work in an IT dept. for a living. Seeing as it's not my money, a copy of Diskeeper is on all servers and CAD workstations ! !
