Hi Guys,

Unfortunately Ive been signed off from work for a while and its doing my nut in :(. Trying to pass the time by watching DVDs/BDs but that gets boring...

Anyway Ive got a PS3 and a load of games (half untouched) so I was wondering, while Ive got all this time what games should I pass the time in (and in what order) to make most use of this time off...

The games are:

FIFA 09
* F1 CE
GT5 Prologue
GRID
* MGS4
* Motorstorm
* Ratchet & Clank
* Resistance
* Singstar PS3
* Soul Calibur 4
* Super Stardust HD
* Stranglehold
Wipeout HD

* = pretty much untouched for different reasons (mostly not having the time). Ive not played MGS3, should I before I play MGS4?

Im determined to also buy Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Uncharted, Tekken 5 and Bionic Commando Rearmed soon so assume thats in my choice...

I got Stranglehold for less than a fast food meal so Ill keep it :p

I dont get much time to play games usually so pick-up-and-play-ones are the ones I get to play - making sure I dont pass up on an experience...

Is MGS4 that bad? ;)

Its like taking a meat cleaver to an operation when youve already got access to a scalpel - it might be a level playing ground, but so is playing Sunday league football if you ignore the Premiership...

Until console FPSs use Mouse+KB theres little reason to play them over the PC variant - its like playing GTR on the keyboard...

Bloody similes...

Well get a PC to play it on then.

Get Bioshock too - time flies playing that.

Nope, I disagree as to millions of others.
But we're all entitled to our own views, blinkered or not.

Ive got both on the PC when they came out ;)

Im not being blinkered - all Im saying is that when youve played such a game that lends itself to a mouse or keyboard when you attempt to play the same game on (for that game) an inferior input device its just not the same. As you said in another thread, perhaps its because they dont have a PC up to playing COD4 well...

I played Q3 for years and then tried it on the Dreamcast and it was just hopeless...

Its the reason why I prefer playing sports games and platformers on a gamepad rather than a keyboard - the right input device makes a massive difference to your enjoyment...

Give me a shout if you get Tekken, play you online if you want, dont't get to play it that often these days. Single player the game is a bit rubbish anyway (as with most beat em ups) so I only ever play online these days (or 2 player local).

If Bionic Commando rearmed is the PSN/XBL game then I would avoid, I can only think of 1 or 2 worse purchases on PSN in terms of value for money tbh. (If it is the new 3d remake, ignore).

Agree, to play FPS competitively/high level you need keyboard mouse, for driving games, Wheel, beat em ups a joystick, etc. Thing is you play FPS on a PC or on a console, I doubt many people play to a high level on both, as you say there is a disparity in control methods. You get used to one over the other. FPS on consoles is not that bad anyway, they all have enough aiming assistance etc to make it enjoyable enough.

Perhaps its my circumstances that makes me dismiss console FPSs - I used to be quite competitive on Q3A and played it for a number of years at a good level. Things like aiming assistance just erk me, as Ive spent years getting good at being accurate and fast that such things for me arent needed.

Hell on my PC I have 3 different gamepads so when I play different types of games I have the right tools to hand - to me I dont think Im the one thats blinkered, as I fully accept and use whatever the best tool is for my gaming enjoyment...

rp2000 - definitely would give you a game - gonna play Tekken 5 PS2 to get used to the different system it employs...

EDIT: Yep BCR is the 2D retro-make - just wanted it because I remember the original (and a fair few games that utilised the same 'attachment') and loved it (I guess from your remark its vastly overpriced on PSN) - the proper 3D one does look gorgeous and I will deifnitely be getting that...

Thing is not everyone can afford PCs to keep up with the FPS games in terms of performance. if everyone could afford to game at Console graphics quality for better on their Home PC for the same price they would, but PCs costa lot to maintain to play the latest and greatest games.

Most people have made a compromise by playing on the Consoles (difference in skill is less profund as everyone has same controllers, matchmaking on Xbox Live etc). I am sure the people who live on Halo games and FPS games like COD etc lived off the PC equivalents 5 years ago, even last gen I think FPS games on consoles used to get stick. This gen it has all changed, yes you lose preceise control, but for the easy cheap pick up and play nature, you forego that, I think.

Plus everyone likes the fact they have a more equal chance of doing well on Consoles, you don't have that on PC anymore (imo).

I agree in principle, as I dismiss RTS games on Consoles, yes everyone has the same hampered control, but that takes away the enjoyment and turns it into frustration tbh.

I dont deny keeping a gaming PC is like a blackhole sucking money - I just said the most natural thing to me - if console makers allow integration of mouse and keyboard into the games (I really thought they would have by now - especially with inbuilt internet browsers and the like) then I would probably have got COD4 for a console in addition to the PC version. I know its an old argument but thats my personal preference (which is why I wouldnt recommend COD4 or Bioshock on the PS3 without a caveat)..

Its not fair to think that translating such game types to consoles and 'fixing' it to use the standard gamepad gives the best overall gameplay experience.

Anyway lets get back to the topic as I need help to decide - Im like a kid in a candy shop with this new console and want to make sure I get the best out of it that my PC cant provide...

If i have a choice i always buy a FPS on my PC, however that doesn't mean you should miss out on the exclusives as they are more than playable with a pad, just not quite as good.

Get Uncharted, you really are missing out if you don't. There are several games i wouldn't bother with such as Motorstorm and Stranglehold so i'd suggest trashing those and replacing with Uncharted, it really is that good.

Then just play Wipeout HD for the rest of your life as i plan to do :)

Not inferior. Just different.
Which is my point. We get a lot of people in here hopping over from the PC section, many/most of which are incredibly narrow and closed minded, particularly on the topic of Mouse and Keyboard. It's just tiresome and it becomes a bit of a reflex :p.

Edit: Though I do understand your frustrations trying to play an FPS on the PS3 controller, I find that it really doesn't lend itself to FPS shooting. Much better with the 360 pad.

I wish they would create a game that allowed console players to play against PC players in an FPS (without the huge handicaps they gave pc gamers in shadowrun!) so i could pwn your face and prove otherwise! :p On a more serious note, while i do believe with all my soul that a mouse + kb is more effective for FPS', i will admit that effectiveness isn't all that matters, it is nice to play a FPS slouched down on my sofa instead of bolt upright after all.

* Resistance
* Ratchet & Clank
* Stranglehold

just to clear them then

Uncharted
* MGS4 (PS this is a long one, might want something else inbetween times)

Then any of the others in any order :D

More than happy to give you a game at SoulCalibre 4 when I'm around :)
