There`s some great info in this thread. Explanation of how to create a bootable usb drive is a must and how to use a dos based utility is also in there. :)

1. Create bootable USB drive from info above.
2. Download bios, unzip and put across onto mem stick
3. Reboot with USB connected and select choose boot device
4. Pick USB stick
5. Type cd flash, press enter
6. Type flash and press enter
7. Restart PC

Done - all that was how i did it when i had to

so far its been like scattered pixels/checker boardish kinda crash in fallout 3 then to a black screen or grey screen, had a blue screen once to. Ive got the lastest patch for fallout3 and my drives are :

8.552 for gfx card and 24/7/08 date for my BIOS

and so far not in anything else CoD4/DmC4/WAR all on highest etc.

Was getting this issue with CSS and also GTA IV - flashing the bios fixed that issue for me - would just freeze with chequer board effect.

However GTA IV now just freezes completely - CSS is fine now though...

flashed fine and my current bios version according to ccc is

BIOS Version 011.010.000.002

that look ok?

thanks for the help btw guys =)

Thats the correct version from memory :)

Im looking at doing this too, do you need to use USB? cos the guide says you can just do it from DOS
Also how does it work flashing dual GPU's?

it is just dos, you create a bootable usb disk with dos on there, well handy :)

you of course can just use normal dos, though will have to amend the correct paths accordingly.

see you got seperate 4870's, i know on the 4870x2 its too seperate commands for master and slave, however i do not know whether this is the case with seperate cards. Could maybe do the normal flash from above with each card in seperately rather than both at same time?

Thanks for reply, yeah I found it in a thread on ATI forum, replace 0 with 1 in command line
I stupidly (lazily) tried doing it with winflash, it just kept looping and looping, fortunately it didnt brick my gfx card
I'll have to get a USB stick and make bootable and try from DOS
Thanks anyways

the bios was for sapphire cards as far as i know i wouldnt try it on other cards.

not 100% sure tho.

u dont need a big stick i used 4gb

Niir i updated the bios on my card when i was doing a wee mod to it for cooling and it went flawless.

Ive uploaded a rar file with all the files you need to chuck on your usb stick

(note it must be the Sapphire 4870 512mb GDDR5 card)

FOR P/N:188-01E85-001SA,SKU#11133-00-XXR ONLY Check green sticker on card or box for these numbers

GET FILES HERE

I havent had a crach in a game yet, i used to get the checkerboard crashes when playing GTA4 and a few other games, ive had zero probs since the flash and since the mod a 50C cooler card to boot :)
