"Server is too busy" - 9th January

UPDATED 11th February: THE PREVIEW PROGRAM HAS NOW CLOSED - no further official downloads are available.

For those who haven't seen, the beta was officially released last month:

http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/wi...ownloading-and-installing-windows-7-beta.aspx

On January 9th, the Windows 7 Beta will be available for Windows enthusiasts to download via the Windows 7 page on Windows.com. The Windows 7 Beta is going to be available download-only (we’re not sending out physical media) and available for a limited time to the first 2.5 million people who download the beta.

Don't use Windows 7 as your main operating system unless you have backed up all your data. There will be bugs and problems with it since it is a beta - report these to Microsoft using the feedback tool.

The current beta will expire on 1st August. The subsequent RC will have to be installed for users to continue with the OS.

how come there are no download links yet others are clearly downloading and have already installed it?

see other thread...

They're either MSDN subscribers or they've got it illegally. Personally I'd rather get it legitimately.

Ditto. Something so very wrong about downloading Operating Systems from torrent sites. Not necessarily ethically but... well you wouldnt want to buy a second hand matress would ya? :)

Are there any vital features missing from the beta? I need to do a hard drive format and would be interested in using it for a while as I simply cannot stand Vista.

From what i've heard, it's fully featured - nothing missing

if the hash matches ms's, then it actually costs MS less for you to get it from a torrent!

not condoning it of course

without sounding pedantic, what can't you stand about vista? 7 will be largely similar, with some more polished features

and remember almost everyone who reported issues / suggestions for vista recieved a free key around release day..

I will likely shove a backup image of my XP SP3 setup to a USB stick on my NC10 Netbook and give Win7 a shot. Imo XP is just too old on a netbook and Vista far too heavy, with no middleman OS.

what i cant understand is why just give it to 2.5 million people, just let people test it if they want no wonder people go to torrents and then try to find cracks if microsoft dont give them a key to try a beta

vlited vista home basic might suit your needs? :)
I thought about it but then removed that idea because I'd have to get me a copy of oem vista basic and I didn't want to spend some cash :) At least with the beta I'll get around say 30 days of use if it has a expiration date on it. I know little about it atm aside from the screenies I've seen lol
