Oh before I forget, Slackworth, is there any ETA on the 1TB version of the 7200.12? Cheers

Cool, been thinking about a new HDD currently running the 7200.10 500GB

A Few questions with regards to this new HDD

1 Why does it have 16MB cache and not 32MB?

2 Is it the new Single Platter 500Gig?

3 Will there be much of performance gain over the 7200.10 500GB due to it being single platter?

4 Any reviews anywhere of it?

Ive got some 11s at the mo with critical data and im pooping it, also got a 1tb external xtreme drive with my life supply of files on! fingers crossed

Sorry, but what were the problems with the 11s? Both my drives are 7200.11s and various machines I have built have the same drives. Kinda worried now :P

Had mine for a while then; one died a slow painfull death making a racket, the other started to suffer spin retry errors then finally died hours later. I'm not touching these .12's untill customer feedback rolls in on the various forums etc.

But then the errors only showed up on the 7200.11s after several months... Mine died after about 6 months, started getting CRC errors.

BTW, Slackworth, are you having issues getting replacement 7200.11s, as I have been waiting 2 weeks for a replacement.

I've had three (not from OCUK) - two were DOA, the third one worked perfectly then one day six months later, I started the computer and nothing - no detect in bios or anything although I could hear it spin.

I think essentially, people got sick because Seagate knew about the problem for months before releasing a firmware fix, and even that was rushed and bricked peoples drives. I think they're on the third version of it, now.

My advice? Back everything up now. Back everything up very very regularly.

There's more about the firmware fix on the Seagate forums: http://forums.seagate.com/stx/board?board.id=ata_drives

Well nice looking drive that i won't be touching with a barge pole the fiasco with the 11's has well and truly put me right off seagate drives for quite sometime. Any news on when you'll be getting some more sammy f1 500's as thats what i would like to buy from OcUK but you don't have any ??.
