Best 1 Terabyte Hard Drive at the moment?

Hey guys, as title..think my 320gb Maxtor is on its way out

Its basically to be used to movies/apps/games but overall for storage.

I would like to know what the best current drive is (1TB) in terms of performance/reliability..

Any information be much appreciated

The best drive in the WD 1TB Black but they've ramped the price right up. Depends if you think the extra is worth it.

The Hitachi 1TB is a real bargain at it's current offer price of £72.44. It's very fast, reliability I don't know - but I have not seen many complaints (unlike F1s) and my recent experience with Hitachis is good (had the older, slower, 1TB version for about 2yrs). I'm about to order one myself if that helps.

I use 2 WD 1TB Greens for storage, they're nice since they use less power and are quiet.

Aren't the WD greens only 5400rpm though - Use Samsumg F1's here - quiet and fast

for speed WD Black or if its just for storage and you dont care for speed then WD green

but stay away from the seagates and samsung F1s IMO

they're all pretty nice just avoid the seagates at the moment as theyve been plagued with firmware issues causing stuttering and drive failures

Think I will go for the WD Green

all ready have 2x Raptor X one for os and one for games..so dont really require any more speed just a drive purely for storing movies/iso's/music, etc.

The newer version of the Green is imo the best 1TB drive around... solid performance with lower power use/noise. Who's mad enough to boot off of 1TB drives anyway.

you make a small partition for the OS

the greens have two modes, 5400rpm for small trasfers and 7200rpm for larger transfers.

even if it's only 5400rpm most of the time, during my testing it's only 10MB/sec slower than the F1 running 7200rpm

One drive = one point of failure, there's no way I would keep an OS and all my precious data on one drive.

I have one of my greens partitioned 195GB for OS and programs and 736GB for games(games are massive these days)

I have my other green and an F1 at the full 931GB for Movies/TV/ISO's,

The other F1 is 50/50 partitioned, half for downloading half for MP3's.
