Following your sat nav down what is clearly a path is idiotic enough, but not stopping until you actually hit something? Exactly how unaware of what you're doing must you be for that to happen?

Driving without due care and attention? That is harsh. He didn't endanger anyone. I've driven down bridleways before just for fun....

I doubt it was the sat-nav's fault though - that sounds like a stupid excuse. GPS isn't likely to be that far out.
