BMW+Sat Nav+Idiot=Comedy

You'd have thought someone driving a nice car would think to themselves "No way am I taking my BMW down there". Clearly not.

Have you seen the condition many of these cars are in? look all around the kick plates, carpets and hinges etc and you'll see the only cleaning they see is the rotary brushes of a drive through carwash and nothing more.

Case in point when my car was in for service few weeks back the dealer said it was nice to see a car that has actually been looked after for a change!

The average person like this guy just wants to get from a to b in as effort freeness as possible, obviously for this guy his lack of effort exceeded the norm :p

Driving without due care and attention? That is harsh. He didn't endanger anyone. I've driven down bridleways before just for fun....

I doubt it was the sat-nav's fault though - that sounds like a stupid excuse. GPS isn't likely to be that far out.

Are you for real? He didnt endanger anyone, other than the peoples little cottages just on the other side of that fence that his 1.5t 5er would have smashed through like a hot knife through butter?

Once again, I refer to the quote where it is claimed he "only stopped when his BMW hit a fence". How is that not driving without due care and attention?

its worded badly to make the driver look more thick.
he hit the fence because he couldn't stop himself, the fence helped him stop. not he hit the fence then stopped...

even a quick look at the pick shows this!
infact he hardly touched it!

When taking my wife and son to one of these "activity" farms (lamb feeding, petting zoo etc) my sat nav told me to turn right into what was clearly a rutted bridle way across some moorland.

But as I have more than two brain cells and had checked the route on a normal map BEFORE setting off, I knew the sat nav was cleary wrong (and at best mistaken) and carried on to the next junction.

How people get themselves into this mess is beyond my comprehension.

Well, I've been speaking my lawyer chums, and if he has a good lawyer, his lawyer will point out that footpaths are not governed by the road traffic act. The road traffic act only covers places where the public has vehicular access to.

If the court tries to argue that vehicular access was possible then that will surely nullify the original grounds for conviction.

Story is exaggerated as usual in the press:rolleyes:
- Plunged down a step footpath
- Teetering on a cliff

Looking at the photos in the same articles I’ve seen drives steeper than that.

He's still an idiot though :)

Agreed - looks like he's come to a hairpin on the footpath, tried to go round in one swoop and run out of lock and touched the fence. Looks like he probably then got stuck trying to get it turned around.

Hardly teetering or plunging anywhere....

He may have been using Destinator 3. That one had quite a reputation for confusing footpaths and rivers with roads, ie you could be coming up to a bridge and it'd tell you to turn left in 300 feet (why is it always feet, why can't we have yards damnit!) and the map would show your route continuing down the river.

The current version of Destinator is pretty good though.
