If a mod could close this post down now I would be grateful :)

Right guys (bear with me here) I need your help, I'm a strange fellah and thought it might be nice to gather some statistics from the general population of PC builders and modders. I like information, and I like collating and arranging it too...

So, I was going to make a topic on these forums to ask all of you if you would tell me your top 5 hardware failures, then I could collate them all and see what we get...

But then I got thinking, maybe this is too small of a sample and want to broaden the question to more than one forum/community. But how would I get people to participate, then I thought I might offer some kind of reward, even a small one.

So I have my own website, just tell people to go there and add their top 5 for a chance to win maybe something small like a 4GB USB flash drive or something.

What do you guys think? Either way we get some useful information out of the other end.

I think it's a good idea, wonder how many hiper PSUs we'll see on there....

Anyway, my only hardware failures have been:

Laing DDC 18W pump
Seagate momentus 5400.3 100gb

Hardware failures:
No Brand PSU
Abit socket 7 Motherboard (Caps near ram started leaking leading to no ram being detected)
Bad RAM on an ATI 9800SE softmodded to Pro
Dead Geforce 2 GTS
Dead 60GB IBM Deskstar

Asus M2n 32 deluxe
Asus striker formula
Asus striker formula
Yes I did mean to write the formula twice lol
Minus the brand can anyone find the common part of the two that is responsible for the failure, its a good one. Person who guesses gets a e-cookie.

xfx 790i ultra mobo (was DOA so dont know if that counts?)
Saitek eclipse 2 keyboard (again faulty on arrival)
Dell dvd-rw drive died after 13months
maxtor 160gb 2.5" hdd (click of death after a week)
and a handful of cheap HP printers that last about a year before packing in

other than that i've been fairly lucky...runs way to find some wood to touch...

MSI p45. Just refused to boot one day, tried everything, dead.
Corsair 520w. Kept getting random shut-downs then crashes within 2 mins of boot. RMA'd.
And both fans in my Hiper type R died within a month of each other. Changed the fans, running fine again.

1 x Antec Truepower 480W PSU
2 x Asus P5K-C motherboards (one lasted about a week, its replacement died after 14 months. Both the same type of death as well)

That's it. Only 3 failures. Not much of a top 5, I guess. Not complaining though.

Work as a techy, so i've seen a fair few. My top five:

Several HDDs (Varying makes and models)
Mobo's (Gigabyte, HP, Asrock, ECS)
Monitors (Too many to mention)
Laptop Mobo's
Tape Drives (Normally just after the warranty is up...)

I didn't look at the manufacturer, I think that they're Hitachi nowadays, but the PC was from 2006. So a festive
rolleyes.gif
to you too.

OCZ ram.
OCZ psu.
Dell laptop
Freecom external hard drive
PNY usb stick

I think thats everything I've had die on me. Laptop was bad though, as it was the missus' and the screen expired while I was looking at the bios :)
