Hi everyone, I thought I would take some time to write about the excellent service I recently got from Seagate and their parent company i365.

My 1TB ST3100340AS Seagate drive suddenly stopped working one day  and on checking it had the dreaded SD15 firmware which causes the drive to stick in a ready state.

I raised an RMA for it to be replaced initially, but I looked on google and found that some users had obtained free data recovery for this problem from i365.
I called Seagate in America and they put me through to i365 in the Netherlands who asked me to fill out a recovery form, then they called me back the next day to arrange TNT to collect my failed drive.

It was then picked up and sent to i365 in the Netherlands who had it for 2 days and did a firmware fix on it and then sent it back to me in the UK.

A TAXI then delivered the drive from the airport and I plugged it in and all of my data was there!

I was impressed but did decide to sell the drive anyway :).

I've never used i365 but for me being a Seagate fanboy :) I've not had any trouble with RMAs with Seagate. The 1 instance where I had 2 replacement drives which were both faulty, Seagate arranged to have them collected and then as a way of saying sorry they upgraded the drive model and size for me.

Hey, who did you contact to get free data recovery? Believe I have the same issue but don't want to spend loads of money calling America!

Seagate RMA is always excellent, so is WD advance replacement.

I wish seagate drives are as good as their RMA service...

You firstly need to see if it is affected by the firmware issue by going to the seagate website :=

http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207931

Select the 'click here to use the serial number check utility' and then enter your drives serial number and check to see if a firmware update is available (bug fix).

If it is and your drive has failed in the ready state, then create an online RMA and then call this number in the U.S to be connected to i365 = 00 800-732-4283 - best to call mid afternoon UK time.
