Hi there,

I've had a lot of help from people on this forums, I am all backed up with Acronis and Boot rescue CD created. Intels' new firmware burnt onto CD and boot from DVD drive first set. I have an Abit IP35 Pro:

On Chip Sata Device
- Sata Mode = Raid

On Board PCI Device
- Storage Controller IDE

These both options have IDE, Raid and AHCI there. So basically i should change Sata mode = IDE. Then reboot with Intel firmware DVD in drive. Update then go back into bios and change sata mode back to raid.

Then im all good?

(p.s. I am lead to believe that Intel firmware update doesnt wipe the drive? although i am backed up incase it does)

i've tried setting

On Chip Sata Device
- Sata Mode = IDE, AHCI both say no drive found... and Raid ofc doesnt work so it skips the intel update and loads my SSD straight up.

what am i doing wrong? anyone in Milton Keynes real confident updating bios for intel SSD?!?

Looking at your MB it wopuld seem you have both Intel ICH9R controller (6 ports) and jmicron controller (2 Ports).

I would try connecting the drives to the ICH9R controller if they are not already connected there. Its a guess but I dont think the firmware update programm will find the drives if they connected to the jmircon controller, only the intel one. Set everything to ide and try that.

For info the update ran fine on my P6T Deluxe MB with two intels drives connected to intel ICH10R controller and bios set to IDE and Legacy mode. No loss of data either.

Hope that helps

hmm thanks for the tips, i had a dig around and it seems the Jmicron Sata ports are on the rear of the Mobo like the keyboard and mouse ports. So im definately connected onto the Intel Sata ports....

The only thing im confused is this IDE & Legacy mode. i've never seen the word legacy in my mobo settings i dont think.

Any Abit IP35 Pros still out there?

Might have a bit of a wait for someone to come along with the same system. Unfortunately BIOS terminology varies from one manufacturer to the next. Having a look at your mobo manual, you can set the access mode for each SATA channel individually from the main screen. Try selecting the channel the SSD is on and see what options you have there. It will be Auto if you haven't changed from the default. The setting you're after may be hidden in there? Difficult to say. Not the most in depth manual I've ever seen (not much better than the vague offering from Intel that I have myself).

Alternatively it might be worth simply updating the drive in another computer if you have access to one. It's a two minute job and it should then be recognised by your motherboard regardless of which mode you choose to run.

Have you tried disabling the JMicron eSATA controller? I realise your SSD is not attached but it can't hurt to try this as it may be the updater is trying to scan this for drives.

Most HDD utilities will tell you this but Device Manager will also supply this info, though there are a few hoops to jump through. Device Manager > Disk drives > INTELSSD... > Properties > Details (tab) > Properties (drop down box) > Hardware Ids. It will list the drive model followed by a code. For example I have the latest firmware so it reads 2CV102HD. If it's a new drive you are probably on 02G9 which has no TRIM support.
