Corsair P128 SSD plus others TRIM Firmware

i have just updated my old p128 fimware with the samsung firmware update tool that enables trim support on my p128 drive that had the old firmware.

only took then 3 months but works fine now with trim enabled tbh i thought it would never appear.

its in beta atm but the proper release is due soon.

you have to create a usb dos boot firstly backing up your ssd as it does a full zzap.

Do you have a link, and does this work on all Samsung PB22J drives or just the Corsair?

Nice to hear that Samsung are starting to get their act together, I've no doubt put people off these drives when asking for recommendations because of this lack of support.

you have to request it on the corsair forum , took them a week to reply to me * corsair that is

on the pdf doc it says 1st december DSRD 2.5" 256gb mlc ssd 128gb / 64gb

vbm18c1q or vbm1801q updates to version vbm19c1q if thats any help
 
Nice :) I thought VBM19C1Q was GC and not TRIM though (I do need to do a bit more reading on the PB22!!!). Mine is a pure unbranded Samsung PB22J. I'll give it a wait until it's finalised.

This is good news, i bought a PB22-J 128GB last month and it has the VBM 1801Q FW and i was felling a bit let down that there was no tools available to keep the drive clean.
 
a few updated benchmarks

crystal disk

win 7 score went up from 5.9 to 6.8

all i did was backup with acronis, booted off my mobo dvd into free dos mode, logged onto my mem stick used the tool, rebooted, quick format to 32k, used acronis to copy my cloned drive back, rebooted worked 100%
 
Did you HDDerase the drive before reinstalling?

Even with TRIM enabled, unless it's a clean drive, it won't be able to clean any cells that are already dirty until they go through the write-delete-erase cycle again. If you didn't you might still be able to get a bit more out of it.

Don't come back and hit me if this doesn't work, but in theory if you fill up all your free space on your drive and delete it, Windows 7 should send the TRIM command to clean those cells. It's a good way to test it anyway :D

That's good news and confirms that Samsung will be releasing a new.

After reading up on AnandTech i thought i was going to be stuck on FW vbm1801q.
 
I hope so Jimmy, but that link seems to be from their partner, not customer site. I'm hoping we'll get access to it as consumers, rather than them just giving it to the likes of Corsair, Apple, Lenovo etc.

Good news :)

But what was it before though? Need something to compare against...

But I also thought it was a destructive flash so you're probably on a clean drive anyway, unless you've filled your drive already then you won't have had time to see what effect TRIM is having.
 
Yes, it's a destructive update so you need to back-up and re-install your stuff afterwards. Speed is basically the same but the new firmware is now TRIM compliant as can be seen on the Crystal Disk Info. Previous firmware does'nt reflect TRIM capabilities (see screenshot below). That being said, it's overall effect on Corsairs P series SSD's still remains to be seen and appraised maybe in a month or so.

Yep I noticed it was TRIM enabled :)

It'll be good to see what it looks like in a month or two - I bet I'm still waiting for a new firmware for mine at that point!
