I have 2 Samsung Spinpoint hard drives, one is 1TB and one is 500GB. I use my 500GB currently to boot from and has all my games on it, but I am finding very often during use that my computer will stop, and I will hear my hard drive spin up then its all back to normal.

What would be causing this? Is it some sort of power saving setting getting in the way or am I looking at a failing hard drive?

Thanks.

could well be a powersaving option, have a check in the control panel at the power options and see if the drives set to powerdown after a certain period of inactivity, altho if its doing it during games then im not so sure but worth checking all the same

If you're using Windows 7, then your hard drives will turn off after like 20 minutes if not accessed by default. I had the same issue so I just configured the power settings to never switch them off.

Ah thanks. I've set it to never, so I guess this is all I can try so I'll see how it goes.

Thanks.
