Just noticed today I've got a crack on the case of my iPhone down by the docking/usb end.

Bought my phone 27/07/08.
Had warrenty exchange 6/12/08 (couldn't send txt messages so they swapped it).

So the warranty and contract have ran out but does anyone have experiance of this when out of warranty? I know they exchange under certain conditions. The closest apple shop is miles away so don't want to make the jorneny if there is no slim chance.

Here's a phone, not mine but its exactly the same type of crack.

I had an iPhone which had this problem. It was under warranty and they fixed the iPhone and sent it back to me however an apple care rep told me it would've cost £30-£50 to repair if it didn't have warranty.

How far out of warranty will they swap the phone/fix this? Mine is about 18 months old and has this exact crack, about 1cm long from the centre of the dock connector. Annoyingly it's been there ages but I never took it to apple as I didn't realise it was a common issue and assumed they'd just say I must have mis-treated it.

Its a 'known issue' and is covered out-of-warranty. Take it to apple store, get it replaced. Simples!

Are you sure they didn't mean £130-150 to repair as their is a flat rate fee of £139 for iPhone repairs or £69 for the iPhone battery.

Mate gave me an iphone 3g on the cheap, had scratched back and a crack in the same place, bought a back case from ebay for £2 (sellers mistake).

Easy to take apart, but absolutely pain to put back together (in working order).

Just a heads up incase you were gunna go down that route.

I need to take my iphone in as I have to really tap hard on the screen to get a response. I spoken to o2 about it and they recommended me to take it to my nearest o2 shop, Would it best to take it to a Apple Shop.

what if these sort of cracks are anywhere else? (i have one near the mute switch)
Someone on here recently had to pay for that one, I don't think it's anywhere near as common as the cracks by the dock connector and so isn't covered.

An o2 shop will take your phone and send it away to be repaired. If you have an Apple store nearby and they can easily reproduce the fault then they'll just swap it on the spot. I know where I'd be going and it's not to an o2 shop.

Mine is covered in cracks now, it's got a 1" crack at the dock connector and loads around the mute button, headphone jack and SIM tray. Apple refused to replace it though because it's apparently water damaged.

I was told there was nothing they could do with my 1cm+ hairline crack around the vibrate switch. But reading on here if you have that by the dock connector you are fine and can get a replacement regardless of warranty.

Just looking at my phone now and it has 2 tiny cracks either side of the dock connector so I'm going back in the Apple store tomorrow. Don't care if it's being picky, I paid £300+ for the phone and 3 cracks when it's not been dropped, ridiculous!
