Microsoft are upping the cost for XBL gold in a few countries including the UK, it doesnt look like it will affect the 12 month sub though.

Pretty much speechless. Just saw Major Nelson mention it on twitter. I hardly use Live in the first place anymore thanks to the utterly useless dashboard UI we're stuck with. I only want XBL for Gears 3 and Dead Rising 2 atm otherwise I hardly touch it nowadays.

Major Nelson's getting slaughtered on twitter right now too. I've already made up my mind and won't renew come 2011. Even if it means missing out on Gears 3 co-op. You pay more, and yet you still get hit by pesky ads. They're just as clueless as ever given their lackluster recent E3 show.

Any reason for this increase? What will they give us extra? Mine has just ran out but not played on the xbox for a while. Maybe when Dead Rising 2 is out I will.

Activision overcharged on map packs for MW2, so MS caught the idea and will probably gradually increase it.

really does take the peas, I only play on 3 month stints when a new game comes out.

WTF! No increase on the 12 month sub? That is ludicrous. I'd rather sell my Xbox than be held hostage to those prices

It makes a 12 month sub look far more attractive than using a monthly sub, makes good business sense TBH. I will add im sure this is the start give it next year or so and i see an increase in the 12 month subs over here in the UK to follow in the US footsteps.

i think a lot of people were buying 1-3 months subs after they got a decent online game, playing it for 1-3 months then not re-newing until another decent game came out.

this way some people were only buying live to use when it suited them rather than a yearly subscription.

now with the price increase, your better off buying a years membership, this way they get more money in due to more people going for the better deal.

its the same as supermarkets. buy 3 for £10 or 1 for £4. you may not need or use 3 for a long time, but your better off buying them in the long run, the supermarket rather than getting £4 will now get £10 off you. so effectively they have increased their turnover by £6. obviously microsoft have caught onto the fact its better to get £40 than £5 here and there.

Its only the 1month sub going up. Who actually pays for Live in 1 month increments?

say you only buy 1 or 2 online games a year, which you want to play online for a while, after buying the game you buy a 1 month sub, play it online for a month, then stop playing it, now would you be better off buying a 1 month sub or a 12 month sub to use it for 2 months of the year?

Considering 12months of Live costs about £27 I don't see the point in buying 1 month for £6, why buy 4 months for £24 when you can get a year for £27? Access to demos early and Arcade offers make it better value too. And I also use Sky Player (which I know not everyone has or uses), which again needs Gold.

Lol, overreaction much?

Basic tier going up by £1 = hardly newsworthy. Lots of companies do this, Virgin Media for example are putting some of their packages up by around £1-2 in a couple of months, it's nothing new.

everyone is different

if i only need live for 2 months of the year, should i pay £12 or £27?

Doesnt effect us as much as other places ill end up getting a sub thou due to Halo Reach coming out soon, Should just do what sony do imo and have the online basic playing free! They cant say its not possible.

I guess. Just seems odd that for only a bit over twice the price you could get 6 times the amount of Live Gold.

I play online very little (at the moment due to not many games out now). But still renew Live for £27 a year because it costs so little, like what 7p a day?

No matter how much the price turns out to be for a total year, there is no use to buy 12 months if you are only going to use two :/

It's just like in the supermarkets, buy this and get the next one half price. It only pays off if you actually use the item. People who think that "I might as well" are exactly what these kind of deals are made for.

Edit: Sorry. Didn't see you reply to basically the same thing above before I posted.

I just cancelled mine as I was paying monthly. It was getting so little use it wasn't worth it.

If I ever do upgrade back to gold, one thing I won't the mistake of again is giving them my card details. It took over 10 minutes on the phone to turn off automatic renewal. Something I feel should be able to be done on the Xbox itself in a mere matter of seconds.

OMG OMG £1 increase, jeez you guys need to grow the **** up its hardly anything plus all the years its stayed the same the £1 probably represents the inflation all these years

Anyone know if they have improved the cancellation process? Last time I did it I had to phone up the help line and actually explain myself and my decision to a sales person.

lol

you obviously arent getting the point, it doesnt matter if it costs £100 a day or 1p a day.

say i need to insure a car for a week because mine is being repaired so im going to use my cousins.

i phone insurance company and they say its £100 for a week, £120 for a month and £200 for they year.

im only going to use it for a week, why would i pay for a month or a year if im not going to use it. you renew at £27 yet you say you hardly use it but you still renew due to how cheap it is. say your only using it for 3 months it would be cheaper to buy a 3 month sub, you are throwing money away, its not about how cheap it is for a year, its about how much you use it.
