After a recent reinstall of Win7 my old boot drive disappeared from My Computer & then caused problems i.e. stopped Windows booting. Removed from sytem.
Today put it in an Icy Box enclosure & after 3 attempts was recognised via USB. Data recovered:D 1/2 of which was backed up previously.
Tried eSATA connection & once again although recognised in the BIOS stopped Windows booting.
SMART staus is OK, Acronis says 100% health as does Crystal disk info.
Passed WD data lifeguard tools quick test & now running extended test.
Wouldn't run scan disk.

Q. Am I to trust this 5 year old drive? Is it a problem with a controller chip that stops it working via SATA but is ok with USB. Some fault causing a conflict with the mobo?

Any advise suggestions welcomed as I've never encountered this scenario before.
