460 1gb and 768mb

Depending what res you will be using when gaming, If it's within budget i would say get the 1gb version of the 460 the extra bit of ram will help when gaming at 1920x1080 also the extra Memory Interface will help performance.
 
For the cost of a pair of 1Gig 460s in SLI I'd just buy a GTX480 or the Gigabyte GTX470 SoC and OC them a bit personally.
 
Without going into a massive long post on variable scaling and deceptive averages... the 480 is close enough in both performance and price that my personal thinking is you might as well go with the 480 and not have to worry about games having SLI profiles, scaling well, etc. (even tho nVidia is usually pretty good on that front).

Although your statement is a "literal" truth do you think looking at the AnandTech Bench results above @ 1920x1200 that the £40-£45-£50 premium is actually worth paying?

If you take those 11 games tested and average out the FPS the GTX 460 1024MB commands a "mighty" 4FPS advantage over the GTX 460 768MB

With this fact in mind would you still stand by your original statement? :D

At that res I would go for a single 470 as it has a fair bit more grunt than the 460 especially with a decent overclock. Then you can always SLI it later on if you need to.

I'm not sure everyone wants to or needs to be spending £234.99 on a GPU to enjoy gaming at 1920x1200 though! . . . I'm pretty sure in the Real-World and outside the 3DMark Hall-Of-Fame that a "humble" GTX 460 @ £129.99 inc does the business and leaves the precious cash safely in the wallet! :cool:

 
OP is talking about 460 sli. Hence the earlier discussion on the 480, but I reckon you can get away with an OC 470 at that res right now for most games.
 
Assuming you want to play games with a high level of eye candy enabled then judging by the benchmarks around I'd say the 460 1gb will manage a decent frame rate on 'most' games. So, it should be adequate for your needs.

Yes i would "stand by my original statement". if he's gaming at 1920*1080 and wants the high level of "eye candy" (as arc@css put it)

I also agree hallmeister has a fair point and a good option to consider.
