Tomorrow, AMD will release its much talked about next-generation Radeon HD 6800 series graphics cards, to reinvigorate the company's competitiveness in a price-segment both it and NVIDIA regard as "the gamer's sweet-spot" price segment, which spans between $189 and $249, offering performance levels very close to enthusiast-grade products. To put it in perspective, you should be able to play any DirectX 11 game at 1920 x 1080 (full-HD) resolution with medium-to-high level of detail. Currently, NVIDIA holds the upper hand in this segment with its GTX 460-768 MB and GTX 460-1 GB, which is exactly what Radeon HD 6850 and Radeon HD 6870 seem to be after, with the HD 6870 also holding the potential to disturb higher-end SKUs that are currently priced around the $299 mark.

With no new SKU for this segment in sight, NVIDIA's immediate reaction is reportedly that of introducing "fairly big" price-cuts on the GeForce GTX 460 duo, the company also plans to cut prices of the high-end GeForce GTX 470. To what extant exactly these price cuts would go is not known, but they will be put into effect either today, or tomorrow. Meanwhile, sources close to AMD told us that in response to this development, the red-team will fine-tune the final pricing of the Radeon HD 6800 series, to step up pressure on the competition. We expect as much as $20 to be cut on the currently expected prices of the Radeon HD 6800 series pair.

lol@BW

Yeah price cuts are already in swing in the UK, can pick up a few 470's for well under £200, competition is great.:D

Old news, very evident from the cuts that OCUK have already done.

Stop trolling threads, there has been no news posted on price cuts, OCUK reduced one 460 and one 470 in price, hardly evidence of all round price cuts.

K?

good

Since when has post-count or membership duration meant anything? Having a higher post count does not make your opinion any more valid than his, and certainly doesn't entitle you to belittle him.

I agree with this statement
We are all victims of a carefully laid trap by OCUK:D

It would be interesting to know the spend : post ratio:)

There is going to be a lot of dissapointed 480gtx users when 69## comes out in nov.
All they are going to have will be Heaven benchmark, bacon and egg cooking and high electricity bills...

4months of fastest gpu very short lived

Despite charlies bias he knows mora about the issues at hand then combined intelect of many of the internet wannabies.

580gtx 800W PSU minimum requirement..

Nvidia will show us something in dec no doubt.
It will probably have wood screws with a 1000w psu on standby.
Retail? Probably have to wait for feb.

The only interesting this is to see if it will be a dual gpu card or a full fat modified fermi.

Plenty of trolling in his short time on the forum, dupe account IMO.

I don't know what to get any more. I might as well wait for the 475 in November. Nice price cuts by the way, way to go.

The 470 is really tempting me in. Gigabyte for 199.99 on OC right now... Thought I'd be looking at a 460 1gb max, but prices are falling each day. If it hits £190 i'm jumping on SLI.

Thanks for the news, I like hearing about price drops just before I'm about to buy :D

I am abit afraid if the 6870 is about 200pounds and is not as good as a 470 then nvidia will up the price. After all the 6870 is about to go head to head against the 460 1gb which is less than 200. But if the 6870 is good then we will have nice prices because of the competition. Hope so...

6870 will be sub £200 (after the first few days profiteering) and will comfortably outperform GTX 460 1GB cards. ATI have had several months to tweak performance and clock speeds and there is now the 6850 and 6870 will be beaten by the 460 768MB and 1GB counterparts. NVidia know this too, which is whay GTX460's have been reduced by 10% this week.
