birthday build (spec me a system)

video editing build (spec a system £1200)

Hello all,
I've had a couple of threads in the past but today is the day i finally wana build my pc. Here's some previous spec I've been going with http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18193777

Got around £1200 to spend for video editing and a bit of gaming, now the 6850/6870's are out i think i'd choose them over the 460 i previously selected. Not sure wether i want to overclock just yet, so would like to buy something that would make that possible later on maybe (decent psu).
Quite keen on the i7 950, 24" monitor (ideally LED backlit like the £170 benq), and i need windows disc too.

Basically everything except a case and dvd drive i need!

(already have keyboard and mouse too!)
Would maybe stretch another £100 if having an SSD would be better for a video editing system as suggested in the last thread, or equally is i don't need to spend as much tell me what you think.

I live local to overclockers so if there's a spec that ticks all the boxes for this price then I'll pop down today and start off a building thread

First build so looking forward to it.

I'm 21 so got a bit of money plus a lot came from saving money from work, thought being 21 deserved to treat myself! =] (and my current macbook is 4years old so i need something better to edit with).

stulid that's a cracking build, think I'd still be tempted to got 950 as i wouldn't be sure if i am overclocking or not so more speed at first the better for the sake of a tenner or so. Thanks for the advice there I'll have a gander at the parts now.

Ben Q monitors tend to get better reviews.

Can i ask why you're so desperate for an i7? i5 would be a fair bit cheaper and the performance difference - certainly in gaming, is negligible.

If you have your heart set on an i7, then I can't see a single issue with Stulid's build

Actually it would be useful knowing what case the OP has. If it's a generic thing, then rethink, but if it's half decent then no worries.

This one's for video editing with some gaming thrown in, so i7 maybe just about worth going for

The case i have is a coolermaster sileo case 500.

I think I'm pretty happy with that build but I think i may go for an IPS screen like the dell 23" on here as I'll be doing a fair amount of video and photo editing with only the odd bit of gaming thrown in.

Also thinking of going for the OCZ 700w modular on promo, presume this would be quieter which is one thing i was hoping for buying a sileo case. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-049-OC

And other thing i was deviating on was maybe getting the Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 mobo as it looks to have more room if i ever wanted to put in another 6870?

good stuff, I would almost be tempted to spend an extra £10 on a XFX 650w psu for the extra pci-e cables if you ever went dual gpu's.

I've read so many reviews for graphics cards and monitors for the past week or so that all the information is getting mixed up. As you say, I just want to buy and get it over with.

I must admit I'm not very clued up on monitors, but how come you've gone for the dell? It's only 23", and you can get 24 inch monitors for less than £200.

Wouldn't the OCZ be able to power two 6870's then if i wanted them at a later date?

As long as the XFX psu isn't loud I'll get that instead and pop down to overclockers now!

For the viewing angles and overall consistency of colour on an IPS screen. My parents have an iMac with and ips screen and I want that kind of quality with what I'm using it for. I know it's a fair jump in price but it's worth it for what I'm using it for i think.
