I was wondering how much the Cayman and Antilles cards will probably cost. So the 6990, 6970 and 6950 and which one will be the best to buy with a £450 budget (at most, but i may be able to stretch that a bit). Also, is there a huge difference between 1gb RAM and 2gb on a GFX card. I hear the 6970 and 6950 are only 1gb and single GPU, but is it going to be worth and extra £100 / £150 for an extra GB and GPU???

Help appreciated.

I would say once the pricing has sorted it's self out something along the lines of:

£135 - 6850
£175 - 6870
£225 - 6950
£299 - 6970
£500 - 6990

.....this is all a guess but unless they need to drop the 68** prices to combat something Nvidia brings I see no reason why they would drop the prices of the 68** which means the 69** should follow around these numbers.

I think with the extra memory they perfom better on eyefinity set ups. I may be completely wrong though. I remember when i was shopping for my 5870 and was checking the difference between the 1gb and 2gb cards and that cropped up. was really anything in performance on a single screen

5870 and 5970 will come hurtling down in price as they become end of life.

think some peeps are really being over optimistic of the higher end cards in terms of price.

The 6850 is £150 and the 6870 is £200, the previous prices were just launch/pre-order prices, I can't see them dropping them back down again in the near future (perhaps until the GTX 580 come out).

There's usually roughly about £50 gap between models but like Voltage, I can't see the 6970 being that priced that cheap so may something like:

£150 - 6850
£200 - 6870
£250 - 6950
£375 - 6970

The 6990 is just going to be a monster and only the very rich and insane will get, so it'll probably be around £500 or more.

There was only a £100 gap between the 5870 and 5970, hopefully it will be the same with the 6990

We don't know how much better the 69** are going to be but yea it's normally £50 difference and the 6990 should be around £500 since the 5970 is. Just a bit tired :p

And when i mean "sort its self out" I mean pricing after the first 2-3 weeks as they tend to be higher.

I don't think the 6870 was supposed to replace the 5850. the 5850 still has a while longer to live.

The 6870 in most benchmarks is on par or faster than a 5850 so at the moment there is no point in buying a 5850 :D

I'm pretty sure the 58xx and maybe the 5970 cards aren't even being made any more, what's out there is all that's left. So unless ATI drop the prices on them, the only people who would buy them are people wanting XFire or the plain dumb.

Hello crackerbear :)

The 6850 is £150 and the 6870 is £200, the previous prices were just launch/pre-order prices

Are you sure about that? :D . . . . I think the prices have been artificial raised by the e-vendors and will most likely go back down as soon as people stop buying them (hint hint!) . . . prices on the HD 6850/70 will be going back down for sure when the next set of cards gets released . . .

I am led to believe that not that may folks are happy spending over £150 on a GPU these days . . . . so its up to the manufacturers to battle it out and offer the most value possible around this "sweetspot" . . . the days of £300 splurges are long gone! :p
