Been watching all the Asus P8P67 threads where people are having issues and have always counted myself very lucky that mine works perfectly... or so I thought....

I have mine running really well using a 2600K and 2x2GB OCZ 1600 ram.

Today I took delivery of a second 2600K.
When I tried to use the new chip in my P8P67 Pro i started getting the same memory issue people have been describing with the red memory light illuminated.

I have reset the BIOS, done a full battery out reset. and this new chip will only run with either 1 stick of the OCZ ram or Both but at 1066Mhz.

After an hour or so of messing about I put the old 2600K back in and it's back to normal instantly... no red ram LED and fully working at 1600Mhz dual

So what on earth is all that about????

Odd, but pretty interesting. I was about to ask how you got in with the second CPU...

I eventually forced my command rate to 2T with one stick then added the second seems to have resolved the issue but I think its about time we gather a bit more info, like if you have an Asus P8P67 and have got (or did have) the boot issue at all, post you're mem, cpu + batch no. and bios version that we can update in the OP - try find something common.

So if we stuck to format:
Issues (Y/N), CPU, batch, memory, bios

for me:
Y, 2600k, L040B307, XMS3 C9 1600, All bios

cheers for the above info, i have a 26k coming with the asus board today, i will deff be looking at the cpu model/batch number now

hey Simon, what was the batch number of your good original 26k was it L039B470?

No because I don't think the CPU is bad.

It works on a Gigabyte UD4 (although the UD4 has a different fault where I can't manually set vcore).

I have spoken to the shop and also requested support from Asus.

Ok have you tried your working cpu from your asus board in your UD4 to see if you can set voltage ?

IMO it's all about the relationship between the CPU and the Memory on the Asus board... some work together some don't it seems.

I will keep this thread updated if and when I get any support from Asus

well just got home and my cpu seems to be from the same batch as your stonker of a cpu. batch number L040B307. i just hope it clocks as good as yours

Do you have the Asus Pro? If so, it'll be very interesting to see if you'res has the same issues as me - Our CPU's are exactly the same batch and I do have issues with the Asus.

Do you have a bolt down cpu cooler? If i remember right there were some issues on 1156/1366 where the cpu cooler was bolted down too tight and not all of the memory was detected. Slackening off a little cured it. Does seem to be a lot of problems with the Asus P67 boards though.

yes i have the asus p8p67, ive had no issues however i have only been in the bios and done quite a few save and resets, do not have a hd attatched so no windows, so far so good tho, memory detects fine and no hangs freezes red lights etc

Well ive just had an oddity.

Took my mobo out to fit the H50 backplate. Fitted cooler, powered back on, no post.

Tried it a few more times and its ok now, but i havent restarted again since. How weird

I had an email from Asus support today regarding the problem... all they offered as a solution was to flash to the latest Bios (Useless!)

Anyway, looking around the forums I decided to explore the pin connection option.
I took out the CPU, gave the underside a wipe and put it back in. I also re-seated the Ram making really sure it was pushed properly in. When i re-booted all was working properly, the RAM issue has gone :)

So my conclusion is that the CPU needs to be located just right and with good contact. I do wonder about the RAM slots... the Asus board is the only one to use this new slot where there is only a clip on one side.... I wonder if that is causing problems.
