"Today, PC gaming generates 43% of the total gaming revenue. The next closest platform is the Wii, which generated 24% of the total gaming revenue in 2009. And the PC share is growing - by 2013, the forecast is that PC gaming will represent 56% of the total pie."

"Enthusiast PCs are 62% of the total market, and there are 4PCs out there for every Wii, 7 PCs for every Xbox360 and 8 PCs for every PS3. Wow."

Yet apparently the reason that games have horrendous security on them, or that games are ported rather than made properly, is because not enough games are sold and too many are pirated

It's good to know that pc generates the most revenue, hopefully it'll encourage even more investment into this awesome platform :D

Hahahaha, it gets so tiresome seeing the gloom and doom about PC gaming, when I've known for ages it's the strongest platform.

remember while big multi platform games may sell better on consoles.

We've got a **** ton more games so we just spread out into smaller groups. :D

I'm guessing a large percentage of PC gaming sales are for casual games such as Bejeweled where it can run on netbooks.

I think that most of the PC's figures on the charts can be attributed to WoW, and the FTP with cash shop MMO business models.

Single player / purchase once to play type games arent very profitable on the PC compared to consoles.

Its no problem though because I love my FTP MMOs, single player RPGs, and strategy games.

Magicka, Anno1404, and Civ 5 are currently keeping me more than occupied, along with the occasional bit of Guild Wars, DDO, Battleforge and Maple Story :)

Over the last couple of years, I've sank much more money into 'FTP' games than I have on single player ones. I see them as having provided me with so much entertainment, that plonking around £15-30 per year into each of the FTP games I enjoy is far more worthwhile than paying £30 for a new game.

The only single player games I've recently bought at full retail price were Dragon Age Origins and Civ V, and this year I'll be looking forward to lots of titles like DAO2, Elder Scrolls 5 and Witcher 2, but thats just because there are lots of great RPGs coming out over 2011 that I want.

The sad thing is, more and more games are going to become F2P - i.e. half finished pieces of rubbish that people throw their money at. Luckily, there will always be a market for a decent game, we are just going to see a lot less of them.

FTP games arent half finished pieces of rubbish - Guild Wars, DDO, Lotro, Battleforge and Maple Story are all very complete games with tonnes more content than most single player games out there.

I usually find that people who complain about the FTP model havnt actually tried it much themselves. If the game actually is really unfinished, buggy and crap, then hardly anyone will play it and the devs wont make any money. There is actually far more incentive with the FTP model for the devs to make a decent game that people will want to play, and carry on playing in order for them to make money.

Thats quite interesting... I game in my PS3 a lot, but tempted to get Crysis 2 and the new Batman Arkham city for PC simply as Batman Arkham and Crysis where such great games on the PC, and the options to control graphics or use your preferred controller such as gamepad or keyboard was quite handy..

I always think... If PC gaming is doomed, why all these new high spec gfx cards or motherboards etc... I mean, I've got a ATI 5870 and I got it for gaming..

Made no sense to me.. PS3 is used alongside my PC, I always go back to PC gaming for a few weeks every so often..

Anyhow, interesting graphs.. Not as bad as some say. lol isn't there a load of PC only games coming out soon as well? I remember seeing a BIG list of PC only titles, along with PS3 only titles.. It was quite good to read - wish I could find it.

With the likes of Steam, these games are actually much much more profitable than they used to be. Developers earn a lot more from Steam sales than they do from retail sales, for example, and since Digital Distribution has actually overtaken retail sales of PC games, the developers should be making more than ever.
