It seems lying is a normal every day thing. We get lied to on a daily basis by tv, adverts, friends, family etc..

I say this because I've noticed the kinds of threads that pop up on these boards, whether they be relationship, house purchases, motoring purchases and some others.

Will there ever be a day where someone actually tells the truth?

Lying has made even telling the truth, a lie.

That depends, did you actually lie about noticing these types of threads? If not you haven't lied, congratulations!

But yeah, pretty much everybody lies. They shouldn't, but they do.

I'd hate to tell you the truth but you won't believe me. :D

People lying about relationships, house/car purchases on here, whatever gave you that idea?

Unfortunately I think it is just the way it is.

There are varying degrees of lies and bending the truth to suit and everyone lies at some point, whether it be to protect someone's feelings or to gain some sort of immoral advantage. Just life, it has always been and always will be this way until human beings learn how to become completely free of selfishness and greed.

No, I don't think there will ever be a time where everyone tells the truth all the time but I tell the truth from time to time, honest. :p

I don't think lying has 'become' the way of the world at all, but rather that it's always been the way. Deception is present throughout the animal kingdom as both a means of survival and of hunting. It's no great stretch to find examples of out and out 'lying' in the more intelligent species either - monkeys sounding a false alarm call to steal food from their group, for example.

I only believe people when the start or end a sentence with "To be honest". It is the only way to tell!

IMHO the whole point of marketing is to make us "think" we want whatever they're trying to sell us and all these benefits they throw at us really are astoundingly genuine. As I see it most adverts follow a simple rule, let's blow our trumpet because the fact of the matter is a vast chunk of people who watch our adverts our naive and will buy in anyhow.

If you think TV adverts are bending the truth then take a look at all these online money making ebooks, schemes, trainings etc. Most seem to promise easy money if you follow these easy steps that gurus do. It's a big business and lots of people get sucked in.

As for people on the street, if someone lies his/her way through life then that's down to their upbringing. The most common lie on there and perhaps best known is "we'll call you back on whenever". Of course they rarely do and they seem to be very forgetful in the process. Worse still, it's become the norm to lie like that right in your face let alone hidden behind a phone, email, IM etc.
