Hi Guys,

I posted in the hardware section a few weeks ago concerning a full PC upgrade. Well I did not go the full hog and just got an OCZ Agility 3 and a copy of Windows 7.

My MoBo is not native SATAIII so I am going to get Startech 2-Port SATA III 6Gbps PCI-Express Controller Card (link)

Basically, I remember when I was posting about this a few weeks ago that someone linked to a really good web page detailing an installation guide and best practice when installing an SSD. I thought I had book marked it however it turns out I have not. I would know it if I saw it though.

I have had a google and cannot find it, I found plenty of others which look good so they may be alright, however could someone link me to a guide they think is good and covers everything an SSD first timer should know and do.

Also in light of buying the Starport SATAIII card above, I am guessing that for a fresh install I would just plug in the card, plug in the SSD, install windows and only when I install the drivers for the card would it then work at SATAIII speeds?

Anyway - everyones help is appreciated in advance.

Cheers!

I have same card - No drivers needed but will show up in device manager with a yellow triangle - ignore.

Just plug in drive to card & have no other hdd attached.
N.B this is a 2 port card but will only work in raid 0,1 or JBOD with a 2nd drive attached.

Install windows & that should be it. Note I have had a stable overclocked system that has become unstable since updating ro the OCZ Agility 3 ssd lots of BSOD. I fear I am one of the ones affected by the 2.06 firmware bug.

Cheers for the response. That problem does not sound good at all, just done some quick reading and it seems that there are some incompatibility issues with MoBo's

Will install mine and see whether it runs no problem before I update the firmware. If I then get problems I will update. However I think I will keep my install of VISTA for now so I can flip back if I get any problems.

Update: see http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/f...BC-for-OCZ-SSD&p=567568&viewfull=1#post567568

I think I have found the cause of the BSOD's:
PCIE bus was overclocked to 103MHz have tried it with 1.6 volts & BSOD within 5 minutes.
Now on 101MHz with 1.6v.[for 45 minutes, ok]
Will run for 24hrs at least, at 100 Mhz & 1,5v [standard volts]. So default is ok:)

Seems the Startech card doesn't like the PCIE bus to be o/c'ed.
Oh, & I have had to increase FSB termination from 1.3 to 1.4v & raise the CPU volts by 1 step to 1.35v in BIOS Cpu-Z says 1.336 or 1.344, HW monitor 1.34 with LLC enabled to help with vdroop.
Hope this helps.
ICH10R should be ok [ I have Asus PQ5-E, P45 mobo]

PS you can only update firmware & secure erase an OS drive via Linux with OCZ linux tool. See their site for instruction with parted magic distro
