Hi guys,

This year I have done a 5km and a 10km - both of which I have done before but managed to PB them both this year. As I have been feeling quite fit because of the training for them I have decided to push myself a little further and do a Half Marathon :)

So in LESS THAN TWO WEEKS TIME! I am doing the Run to the Beat Half Marathon in Greenwich (near where I live - THANK GOD! I can hobble home lol!).

I am supporting two charities - both of them brilliant :) the first one is Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research who helped me get a place on the run:

Also the British Heart Foundation - which I wanted to fundraise for for a special reason. My friend's nephew passed away at 16mths old a couple of years ago and the whole family have been fundraising since then for BHF. I wanted to add to their total by running for Jake.

I also had a personal reason for choosing BHF as I had heart complications as a baby and this is my way of saying 'thank you' to everyone who would have supported my parents and family back in the day.

Any donation is appreciated and will definitely help with my motivation!

Can't thank you enough. :)

You'll be fine! I did my first half marathon yesterday (The Great North Run) and really enjoyed it. Managed it in 1:55:38 which I am happy with. Stairs are proving to be a challenge today though!

Good luck and just enjoy it. :)

WOW!!! That's an amazing time well done!

Will be mega happy if I come in at sub 2hrs :)

Any tips Messiah Kahn?

Make sure you pace yourself to what you are aiming for. That means not pushing too hard at the start etc, but also not just slowing down near the end with all the masses. Keep pushing for the time you are aiming for.

For most of my training I have used a Garmin 305 GPS/Heart rate monitor, which I also used for the run. It makes pacing myself so much easier. As long as the average pace stayed under 9minutes a mile I was guaranteed to get under a 2hr time. I then also kept an eye on my heart rate and tried to keep it between 180-185 at all times. Any more than that and I would fatigue too quickly, and less than that and I'm not trying hard enough, lol.

Other than that, just enjoy it and soak up the atmosphere. Just remember that the pain only lasts for 2 hours, after that you can enjoy well earned treats! :)

Thanks for the sponsorship! Was nice to meet you too :) so grateful!

Thanks MK :) am planning to start the race and continue at my pace till I can see the finish and finish off on a sprint (that's usually how it goes anyway ;) lol)

I'm not going to race off at the start (I personally think thats stupid - unless you have trained that way, as you use all your energy that you need for the long haul :/) rather save energy, have a steady run and sprint the final 500m or so!

Really touched at how people on here (that I barely know) have sponsored me :) thank you so much!
