New build freezing... something simple?

Built my system yesterday no problems. Windows installed fine etc. Left pc on overnight and through the day downloading and installing programs... great.
Went to play project cars it was asking me for a direct x .dll file that was missing. After installing a few dx updates and fannying around windows started freezing. Ran a virus scanner with security essentials... all ok. Ive now given up after a few hours and just want to wipe it again and install the correct dx update in the first place (now i know which one it is)
The problem is when i boot from my windows cd and it goes to the page where you select what language for the install my keyboard or mouse dont work. So i cannot format the hard drive. Funnily enough when i go into my bios the keyboard and mouse work. But as soon as i enter windows setup both keyboard and mouse turn off and their both usb. Also my motherboard z77x-ud5h does not have any ps2 ports so im stuck!
What do you recommend guys i have no idea where to go from here lol

Uplugged cable and plugged into a different usb port and its working now? faulty port already?

Unlucky for the port, just stick a piece of paper over it so you don't plug it it again

What doesnt make sence is the mouse works in the mboard bios. Maybe you need to unplug and reconnect when in the windows installation to install usb drivers or something?

Yeah, this happens on my laptop, it freezes, it disconnects from the internet, the mouse just cuts out

Guys ive just formatted my pc, and its still freezing and its done it about 4 times now.

I have removed 2 x 4gb sticks of samsung green memory, if this doesnt work ill swap the 2 sticks ive removed and put them back in. If that doesnt work i have no idea...

When it does freeze i have no error code on my motherboard except "A0" which means IDE INITIALIZATION started. Which is on all the time.... is this normal?

Cpu temps ok... and everything is set to optimized settings in the bios.

Try the latest motherboard drivers? Try a different SATA port for your boot drive?

I tried 2 x 4gb samsung green in DDR3 ports 2 and 4 and it carried on crashing. I took them out and tried my other 2 x 4gb samsung green in ports 1 and 3 and so far no windows crashing in 2 hours or so...

Could this be faulty ram guys? any concrete way of testing it under load/stress?

Just wondering if you have tried the 2 x 4gb that are currently working in ports 1 and 3 and put them in 3 and 4 (is it the memory or slots on motherboard at fault?)
If its the motherboard then is this related to your mouse issue?

Im not sure just posting thoughts.....

Run a memtest should identify any faulty sticks I think mate, good luck

I've had another system freeze (with the other 2 x 4gb ram in slots 1 and 3) im fairly confident its not the ram now. Ill try that memtest in the morning to confirm.

To clarify what ive done....

- System was freezing after installing directx drivers for a game
- Ran an anti virus to confirm i havent downloaded anything dodgy (all ok)
- Thought that its a new install and wasnt worth trying to find out what was causing the problem so reformatted SSD
- Had problems installing windows again as mouse / kb wasnt working but only had to unplug when i was at install page :/
- Clean install of windows 7 on a formatted SSD, updated all relevent motherboard drivers on cd
- Still freezing randomly when only browsing the web
- Removed 4GB x 2 of ram from slots 1 and 3 (still froze)
- Removed a further 4GB x 2 of ram from slots 2 and 4 and re installed the other ram back into 1 and 3 (did not freeze for 2 hours or so now it has froze)

Whats the next step?

Ill try memtest in the morning?
Ill try updating my motherboard drivers from version 6 (factory installed) to version 7?
Ill try installing windows 7 on a different HDD maybe faulty SSD (crucial m4)?

What do you think guys?

Completed memtest this morning, test complete with no errors (all 16gb back in) so far this morning the last 3 hours it hasnt froze. Ive plugged the SSD into a different sata3 port and reinstalled all the drivers from online and not off the CD provided with the motherboard. Fingers crossed!
